They've been planning for another movie since Chronicles was written, they just had trouble getting studio support.

Also, that headgear looks kinda silly. If that design does make it into the movie I hope he ditches it quickly.

I was a bit disappointed in the universe they created with chronicles. However, its better than anything Lucas could work up these days.

I'd be more excited about a 3rd video game.

I never actually played the 2nd game really, I bought it really cheap on the steam sale and it didn't work on my computer, but the first was awesome. Best first person fist fighting I've ever seen (besides boxing games)

Yea, it would seem that this dynamic should almost go away completely with the events of the 2nd movie. What does it matter that he was a criminal anymore? He supposedly has armies to protect him. No bounty hunters after him, no jails to escape. It would seem its merely him trying to direct this huge negative force into a less horrible direction.

And muscles.

^^ WHAT. I 100% disagree, the first is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2nd.

But I like that 2nd concept art photo (Riddick and the Dog, classic motif). I was hoping they'd do sort of a "fall from graces" and reduce Riddick to his lowly badass self.


Much more excited after that updated information.

Well, Chronicles of Riddick was a departure from Pitch Black. And this is supposed to be more along the lines of Pitch Black. It was also forced to be PG-13, where as Pitch Black was rated R. This is back to being R rated.

The production budget was like $38 million... which in movie production dollars, isn't really that high. That's in line with a comedy. And from what I've read, Vin Diesel had to back some of it financially, including putting his house up. For comparison, Chronicles of Riddick cost over $100 million. Pitch Black was like $25 million.

The same guy directed all of them. So I think while it was obviously "green lit", a) it's clear that the studio is not taking the same risk/approach as they did with Chronicles of Riddick (this is 1/4-1/3 of that budget), and b) that the budget is much more in the wheel house of the director. I think sometimes the end result is better when people don't have too much freedom to do what they want and are forced to keep to the basics.


That said, I'm going to check it out sometime this weekend. I hope it is more like Pitch Black.
