That said, I'd vote him. 10/21/2011 7:07:37 PM |

I saw him in the Fox/Google debate and, aside looking extremely nervous, he had a single answer for every question asked.
And I can't remember what his answer was. 10/21/2011 7:46:08 PM |

Probably because those answers actually made sense and weren't rooted in talking points. 10/21/2011 7:50:58 PM |

He doesn't need a gimmick, he doesn't need to pander and he has a proven record as governor of responsible stewardship. 10/21/2011 8:19:06 PM |

Well, just taking a very quick glance at his wiki I think I can spot a reason right away. School vouchers + marijuana decriminalization means alienating the voter bases of both major parties.
He'll be a fringe candidate until the Libertarian party gets some serious money backing.
Well, Eecept that he's apparently rejected the Libertarian party in the past.
It's a shame too. I wouldn't vote for the guy (vouchers are a deal breaker for me, but this isn't the thread for that) but just poking around I wouldn't be too upset about him being president, especially compared to the more popular GOP potential nominees.

if only Herman Cain would get the Republican nominee
with him and Obama pitted against each other, maybe latent white racism could be harnessed for good 10/21/2011 9:08:09 PM |

Fox News Debate highlights from Gov. Johnson.
Quote : | "BAIER: Governor Johnson...question to you about the 10th amendment...What makes you a better choice for libertarian Republicans than Congressman Paul?
FORMER GOV. GARY JOHNSON, R-N.M.:...I promise to submit a balanced budget to congress in the year 2013. I promise to veto legislation where expenditures exceed revenue.
~~~
QUESTION: What as president would you seriously do about what I consider a massive overreach of big government into the classroom?
FORMER GOV. GARY JOHNSON, R-N.M.: I'm promising to submit a balanced budget to Congress in the year 2013. That's a 43 percent reduction in federal spending.
~~~
BAIER: Governor Johnson, here in Florida, charter flights from Ft. Lauderdale to Havana, Cuba, have resumed. Is there a problem with that? And what are your thoughts on U.S.-Cuba policy?
JOHNSON: I think the biggest threat to our national security is the fact that we're bankrupt, so I am promising to submit a balanced budget to Congress in the year 2013. " |

What positions does he present that Ron Paul doesn't already present? 10/22/2011 5:22:42 PM |

He's fairly staunchly against the Death Penalty, so that's one difference from Ron Paul and another reason he isn't invited to debates for a party whose mantra on the subject seems to be "kill'm all, figure out if we should have later". 10/22/2011 5:39:01 PM |

^^ He has a track record as being governor of actually getting things done. That of course is a big no-no in current GOP playbook because it's too much like actually governing and not just trying to destroy the president. 10/22/2011 9:36:20 PM |

I would characterize him as a little more pragmatic and moderate (relatively) than Ron Paul. There are some differences on specific issues, although they arent tremendously disparate or anything. 10/22/2011 10:08:05 PM |
