so my friend says shes positive her AC adapter no longer works-

its a Dell Inspiron E1505-

from my quick googling it seems there are several replacement adapters for this but they seem to have shitty reviews. obviously OEM adapters can be had for a slightly higher price? is that the best route to take?

also, seems like i remember being in walmart or bestbuy one time and they had universal laptop adapters? whats the story with these? how do you know if theyre compatible with your model? are they pieces of shit too?

i guess the question is "what do i tell her to buy?"

Today my laptop (just out of the blue) started having charger connection issues. The battery has long been shot, so we always run it off of the charger. However, for some reason, the laptop will only receive a charge unless the charger plug is sitting at the right angle with the right pressure.

The internet tells me that it's likely either the charger port or the charger plug; but that it's most likely the port. And that requires a fix I'm not capable of performing (soldering in a new port).

My laptop is old (~4-5 yrs), so warranty repair is out of the question; and buying a new laptop is also not an option right now.

I could get a new battery and try to operate more off of the battery and less off the charger.

Or I could get someone to repair it.

Do I have other options? is this an easier fix than it appears? and if not, is anyone here capable of fixing it (obv I can compensate anyone for their help)

just make sure whatever you buy is rated the same (wattage/voltage/amps whatever) as your current one. too much or too little can fuck up your battery or take forever for it to charge/hurt performance.

I do laptop DC jack repairs for a $50 flat fee on most models as a kind of TWW special. Just PM me and bring it by . . . I'll inspect it, make sure the jack is indeed the problem, and repair it usually within 24hrs. I don't charge unless it works.


y0willy0: The universal adapters work fine as long as they come with the right tip for your model, but are quite expensive and usually not worth it. I have at least one spare Dell adapter which will fit that model, $20 if you'd like it. Plus you can come by and test to make sure the adapter really is the problem.
