Is anyone, who is familiar with whatever Facebook's most recent changes/privacy settings currently exist as, aware of a way that one could allow "check-ins" to places but not have those check-ins broadcast out to people nearby via mobile device (specifically iPhones)? I'm aware of how to turn off push notifications so I don't get other people's, but I'd like it if it didn't broadcast my location to nearby friends. I know that sort of defeats the purpose.

could be useful for historical tracking of check-ins without the desire of sharing this data, but I'm pretty sure this isn't currently possible.

don't want your friends running over from flying saucer to make fun of you on the dance floor at legends?

if you really wanted to, i bet if you change the privacy settings for your check-in post to "custom" and then "only me" every time before you post, that would work.

tedious, yeah. but whatever.
