Wye Oak was the only album I'd consider as the best of the year

Boring year for music, or maybe I just slacked off

Best Albums IMO:

Destroyer - Kaputt
M83- Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

Albums that deserved multiple listens:

Yuck s/t
Wu Lyf - Go Tell Fire to the Mountain
Toro Y Moi - Underneath the Pine
Wild Flag s/t
Tom Waits - Bad As Me
The Antlers - Burst Apart
Washed Out - Within And Without
Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact
Tune-Yards - whokill
The Rosebuds- Loud Planes Fly Low

Still need to listen to the new Atlas Sound, Wye Oak, and Future Islands

Shit, I forgot about Yuck

Probably listened to that album more than anything this year. If it weren't 25% boring, it would be my #1

saw Yuck in DC back in the spring. It was in fact, about 25% boring. Weird.

I mean like 25% of the album is boring Elliot Smith stuff

Not like it pushed the boring-o-meter up to 25%

FYI

surprised by the lack of love for Atlas Sound- Parallax. That's the front-runner for AOTY for me at the moment

^ evidently, there are murmerings of a deluxe edition. perhaps it will be called bon iver, bon iver, bon iver?

For a genre of music that is almost entirely dead now I thought Machine Head's Unto the Locust was pretty good.

I think the biggest disconnect ever exists with me and trying to fathom what people get out of the Bon Iver album. I have never been this baffled with an album and I never will be again. It is total worthless crap.

I have no idea what emotions are trying to be honed/expressed/drawn out of the listener, and I have no idea why anybody would think bringing back Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby and Steve Winwood would ever be remotely considered "cool."

And after that album, that band doesn't even deserve me saying their name right. Forever Bonn Eye-ver.

i gave it love in the music of 2011 thread and will give it more here.

here's my top 11 in no particular order. was hard enough to narrow down to that so definitely not even going to try to rank them.

fucked up - david comes to life
girls - father, son, holy ghost
wu lyf - go tell fire to the mountain
m83 - hurry up, we're dreaming
atlas sound - parallax
snowman - absence
panda bear - tomboy
future islands - on the water
braids - native speaker
bon iver - bon iver
destroyer - kaputt
akron/family - st II

i am surprised by the lack of love for fucked up. david comes to life is a fantastic album. seeing them live for the first time this year made me appreciate them even more.

Wasn't a big fan of Bon Iver until my wife took me to see them live, absolutely amazing show. Would put that album on a top list along with Radiohead's King of Limbs.
