Searched quickly, sorry if I missed something...blah blah blah

Any Black Keys fans out there? Been listening to the new album and although I don't think it's as good as Brothers (one of my 2 favorite albums to come out in almost 10 years) but it is definitely starting to grow on me more with each listen.

Also bought tickets to see them at MSG and contemplating coming down for the Charlotte show as well.

I'm waiting for it to become available on Spotify to listen.

There was some discussion about the pitchfork review of the album in the Music of 2011 thread.

I need to get this album I think. I've only heard 3 songs so far and like them all.

When are they playing in Charlotte?

They're playing Charlotte Saturday, March 24

Not sure when the tickets go on sale to the general public, but the presale sold out for Charlotte...if you want to get in on the presale now for any of the cities not yet sold out the login is "elcamino", password "tickets"

Has anyone seen them play? I tried pretty hard last year but tickets were extremely hard to come by as they were free in Central Park (but you had to have a ticket)

good album, dont think I like it as much as Brothers at this point, but it'll probably grow on me. Little Black Submarines and Sister are my two favorites so far

when i read the pitchfork review for this album i was glad i wasn't the only one who noticed the guitar riff from "mary jane's last dance" shamelessly pirated in this song

Not sure the appeal for the Black Keys was original, creative, or any of that. At least, I sure hope not.

That being said, I have never seen what all the fuss is about with this band.

Listening to the Black Keys says to me, "I'm an average white guy from middle America, I wear plaid shirts, occasionally I have a beard, I play pool on the weekends and I'm kind of an asshole. I drink cheap domestic beers, and always talk about/drive some car I'm obsessed with, and I rarely read books or have intellectual conversations beyond listening to the Black Keys, who are somehow innovative musicians..."

hahahahaha

Hey, TKE-Teg, you can up your Hip cred by getting this album on vinyl or cassette. Since most of Black Keys fans are posers anyway, is all I'm sayin.

I love it

I also am wearing plaid and can occasionally grow a beard so Scrump is spot on with his assessment

they're fine if you don't take them too seriously, and every single person who posts regularly in music threads probably listens to bands that fit that bill. i don't listen to much of their stuff beyond their third album. never been a huge fan of dan auerbach as a song writer, but his voice used to sound a lot better in my opinion, and i think he's written some pretty cool riffs.

They're fine. I was trying to add to the comedic value of that Pitchfork review, which is actually quite fun. I've just never been into them...

lol, thanks for the tip

I don't know too many of their songs, but all the ones I've heard I like. Also pretty hilarious all the hate they're getting in here given that the only way to listen to them in this part of the state (outside of buying their stuff) is streaming a (better) radio station from another part of the country.

^^ Except that's not true at all. Beyond traditional broadcast venues, they get tons of play in numerous TV commercials, television programs, and goddamn sports radio bumps, not to mention the occasional college rock DJ who doesn't know any better.

The Black Keys are not an obscure band. They've done opening slots on huge tours, are playing arenas, and have been making successful records for nearly ten years.

I think that's what I hate most about them, honestly. Every frat kid in the nation thinks that. They seriously think the Black Keys and the Shins and the Strokes, etc are alt/obscure/whatever.

Universal Records: obscure

I love the Black Keys, probably my favorite band that is out right now. and I've listened to the majority of the shit posted in the "music of 2011" thread, which 95% of the music in there sounds like the same exact depressing, wannabe artsy shit

there I said it

Because you're a bro. You act like people don't expect you to have that mentality. People like you think you're in some club because you listen to the Black Keys or something.

i saw them at bonnaroo. a little sloppy live. i wasnt sure what to expect heading in. i enjoyed it, but it could have been better.

superjam featured Dr. John & Dan Auerbach, much more enjoyable.

Not liking the Black Keys. The only point about the Black Keys was that they're sure as hell not obscure, and not even indie at this point.

they shouldn't have played what stage. I was pretty underwhelmed by their set. they killed it last year when they played that tent though.

i was so mad when their show sold out there in 06 and one of my buddies who i was supposed to go with somehow ended up getting a ticket and went without me. then i didn't go see them in 08 at disco rodeo because i didn't have anyone to go with (so, so stupid). now it costs $40 to see them in an arena. no thanks.

You think I give a shit about some song being played in a commercial or TV show? I never heard them or heard of them till I started listening to out of area radio stations over IHeartRadio. If you want to blame someone for me not having heard this "well established" band previously then blame the shit media around here.

Quote :
"i like the black keys and i do not own any aerosmith or boston albums"

Sure I got Get a Grip, but I can't remember the last time I listened to it and when I got my iPod years ago I didn't even bother loading it onto it. Boston albums? Not a one.

I've got better things to do with my time than "seek out" indie music that nobody's heard of and that nobody thinks is any good. So go back to your pedestal so you can continue to look down on everyone.

^^ I mean there is a point somewhere in this diarrhea filled thread. Some peope enjoy music they may not be as well known and actually seek it out as a hobby. Absolutely nothing wrong with that just like any other hobby someone may have. I have other hobbies and things I like to use my free time on so I listen to nearly all "mainstream" music. Nothing wrong with that either.

These threads inevitably turn to shit because people like scrumples can't help but act like total dbags and shit all over anything they don't like knowing they'll find some retard to argue with instead of acting like adults and just ignoring the thread..
