History:
My man had knee surgery last February and he has been doing really well. Walking on the leg, building the muscle back up, etc etc.
Well today I noticed he has this fluid filled bump on his leg pretty close to the incision (as you can see from the pic). It is probably a coincidence considering the fact that the surgery was almost a year ago, but how concerned should I be? My vet is closed until Monday and I would really like to avoid the $500 emergency vet bill if possible.
He has no pain that I can tell, and the sac feels like it is just filled with fluid (no clumps). Should I rush him to the emergency vet or can i wait to take him to my vet first thing Monday morning?

Why don't you ask a real vet instead of, you know, the internet? I mean, you do care about your animal, right? The NC State Vet Hospital has a 24 hour line you can call. 12/10/2011 4:45:27 PM |

I dropped $800 on his knee surgery, so I think it is clear that I care about him
And I already contacted several vets that said it was hard to tell without actually seeing him.....all of which are closed on the weekends 12/10/2011 4:47:59 PM |

For future reference I think Care First has an emergency service you can call after hours. I've done that in the past to get their opinion on whether it was okay to wait until the morning/Monday/whatever. 12/10/2011 6:36:07 PM |

I'm not a vet, but as long as your dog is behaving normally and the site isn't hot to the touch (suggesting infection), I'd think it would be ok to wait til Monday. 12/10/2011 7:46:02 PM |

My dog got something that looked similar to that and it was just an abscess. My cat also had something similar and it was a cancerous tumor. I think the vet said if it was full of clear liquid, then it isn't a tumor. 12/10/2011 8:13:17 PM |

Yeah, why post your question on an internet forum that has veterinary students posting regularly on it instead of paying $texas for something that is very likely not an emergency?12/10/2011 8:45:01 PM |
