I think it's just a matter of getting used to. The first run I had with it it definitely did not work as expected. But then I followed the directions exactly and it worked great. You have to really really really make sure that there is no excess paint on the pad for it to work correctly. I usually scrape the pad on the edge of the paint tray several times, to the point that it doesn't look like there's enough paint on it, before using it. Once doing that it would only take two, maybe three, passes along whatever edge I was painting to be complete.

not a big tool guy... labor has gotten so cheap now and I make enough that I would rather just pay someone else to do most shit and besides, I am an idea guy, not a labor guy.

Plus, it frees up a lot of room for other stuff that I use more day to day. I mean, I have the standards for every day repair, but I'm not going to go out and buy some table saw to use twice a year at most. It akin to changing the oil in your car, I could do it, but better to just pay someone a few bucks and not have to worry about it.

^^ wish I has that option, but half the fun for my wife is actually doing things for the house ourselves.

Since we got together I've learned basic woodworking, drywall repair, how to paint properly, how to put up crown moulding, how to build a goddam brick patio, and gained an assortment of tools I never thought I'd own.

And I wouldn't be doing it, but she gets so damned excited about the next project that it's almost infectious. Plus I'd feel lazy as hell sitting on the couch while she's putting up moulding.

I'm with JB. I just want to tell someone what I want, go on vacation, and return to it all being done. Every time I start a project, I just lazy/bored in the middle of it and want to stop. Might as well hire someone to do it in the first place.

Ugh. As soon as the house in Raleigh sells, we're going to be remodeling the house we're in. I hate the thought of doing any of the work myself.

I actually thought you were being sarcastic in your first post it is that bad. I used to work in the paint department at Sears and not once have I ever heard anyone make a positive comment about it. I mean, does it really work just like the package tells you if you have to wipe off so much paint that it takes 3-4 passes to finish the job?

Not exactly a cool tool....but the Craftsmen power drill I got for Christmas last year is my favorite thing on the face of this earth. I don't know how I lived without one before then.

Kreg jigs are flippin' sweet and really open you up to some cool carpentry projects.

Also a couple years ago I got a Black & Decker folding work table with integral bar clamps. It's makes a great work bench, assembly table, compound miter saw stand, etc. It's light, sets up in <10 seconds, breaks down just as quickly, and folds up to only 4-5" thick. Great for jobsites or anyone who wants to save space in the shop. I can't seem to find it on lowes.com, but it is exactly the same as this one at Depot (although I think mine was much less expensive):

and for the record, I did say I have the standard tools... so if anyone posts a "cool" one of them, I would be interested. But I have a feeling that most people's definition of a "cool tool" will be some relatively exotic, obscure tool that is used for random one off projects.

spydyrwyr, have you seen the "jawhorse". I've been trying to design a good work bench but I've got limited space in my workshop so I like to look at good multifunctional tools. The jawhorse looks like a pretty good deal, plus it folds up to store out of the way.


The kreg jigs are pretty high on my list. Gotta take care of a few other tools first.

The only time I ran into that is when I just globbed waaaaaaaaaaaay too much paint onto the thing.

It takes a couple passes with a paint roller or a paint brush to get consistent, even coverage. Not sure why this thing would be any different.

Yeah these are great, if you are having problems you are not doing it right. I have probably painted 30 walls since discovering this and its worked perfectly every time. If you have paint going everywhere you are using too much paint. Practice on another section of wall until you don't fuck it up.

The trick to painting the edge near ceilings is to run a phillips head screwdriver along the joint where the ceiling meets the wall, holding the screw driver at more of a vertical angle.

This creates a little divot in the joint. Then by hand, with no tape, use an angled brush so that the flare of the brush (im probably not using the right term) goes up into that divot.

Instant beautiful line, and you cant tell it is an indention from the ground, only close up.

A painter taught me that and I have never looked back.

I used the trick to paint all of my walls that way, and I have popcorn.

I actually think it works better with popcorn ceilings because the shadows from the popcorn hide the tiny divot better. You really dont want to make the divot too big, only big enough for the tip of the brush to slide in.

I haven't painted any walls except the passthrough wall I did in my kitchen but I didn't try that tip.


Recently bought this. So far I've sharpened a chopping knife, a pearing knife and some serrated kitchen knives. And this thing got them INCREDIBLY sharp. I am very pleased so far.

I am in the market for a Drill Press, the one i bought from harbor freight a few years ago sucks dick and after everyone coming over to use it for the 2AM last minute projects it has only gotten worse. I need something that will accept TINY drill bits like down to millimeters. I've been debating getting one of those dremel stands but they look awkward

Finally getting around to painting the hallway and dining room. Bought the Wagner turbo roll from amazon. This thing is AWESOME BABY! It took a few minutes to get started with it and I made a mess on my drop cloth. But once I got started I painted the dining room in about an hour and it looks great. The coverage is much better than the standard paint roller. Clean up took longer than normal. But with the time I saved in painting and as good as it looks ill take it
