60 bucks for 12 picks sounds like a bit much, you might also want to look into a capo and extra strings. 12/15/2011 11:14:52 AM |

my dad is a pretty dirty mandolin player
he keeps a rattle snake tail inside his mandolin because its superstition that doing so will make the player faster... that'd be pretty cool if they don't already have one... that or a new strap if he doesnt have one either 12/15/2011 11:21:11 AM |

^^
that's good to know.
I mean, even if they are overpriced for what they are, it's a gift for someone else so i don't have a problem overpaying for something that's within my budget, especially if it's a good product that he probably wouldn't buy for himself. 12/15/2011 11:27:01 AM |

Fiddle players used to do this. I found an late 1800s to early 1900s fiddle wrapped up in a blanket in my grandparent's house that had a rattlesnake tail in it. The reasoning behind it seems to be all over the place (per google)...Everything from keeping dirt dobbers and mice out to enhancing the sound or giving you a rhythm to help keep time while playing. Surprisingly only a few of them seem to deal with superstition such as helping you play faster. Most had some practical basis. Whether they actually worked might be a different story though.
