Does anyone use this to find contractors? Is it worth it?
I didn't realize it was something I'd have to pay for and I've been looking to get some work done around the house. 12/19/2011 8:40:05 AM |

Great thread. I have also always been interested in the site but never really wanted to pay for the subscription before knowing what kind (and quality) of information it would provide. I am in the process of closing on a house and will definitely need a resource for finding quality contractors soon. 12/19/2011 9:08:28 AM |

I saw this commercial the other day and was wondering why free reviews other places on the internet wouldn't be sufficient. 12/19/2011 9:15:58 AM |

^ i think that the idea is that anyone can write reviews for any company on the free sites, but angieslist reviews are guaranteed to be have been written only by those who have used those particular companies
not sure how it works that they verify this, but that's the only draw i can think of 12/19/2011 9:34:24 AM |

Angie is a trailer name.
This by itself turns me off from anything it has to offer.

My husband used Angies list (Triad edition) recently because we needed to get new gutters and garage doors for our house. It was a great way to narrow down all the contractors out there to a manageable 3 to get quotes.
Also, we got our subscription from a groupon deal which just happened to be running at the time. 12/19/2011 10:49:48 AM |

i just used it to find a house painter (exterior) because i figured it would be a good way to choose between the hundreds of options, and spending a few bucks on angie's list would be a good idea since i was ready to drop $thousands on a painter
it sure worked out for me, i'm very happy with the work i got done 12/19/2011 10:58:06 AM |

The only thing I know about Angie's List is that they advertise on "Rhett and Link: Commercial Kings" and that alone will ensure that I use their service the next time I need a contractor. 12/19/2011 11:07:34 AM |

We have an Angie's List account. It's great because they do a good job of weeding out obviously fake reviews written by the business, businesses are allowed to respond to complaints they get which can be interesting, and lots of vendors on there will run Angie's List special (20% off, etc). Don't pay full price though. Wait until they run a special on Craigslist, or get one of your friends who has an account to hook you up with the special they have going on right now. I think it's $10 right now to gift a subscription if you get it before Christmas. 12/19/2011 11:16:30 AM |

If you do this, you are a douchebag. You are the type of scum who posts up in the Garage asking people with CARFAX accounts to look up the "VIN number" of that sweet 2003 Hyundai Tiburon you saw on eBay Motors, only you're not gonna bid, you're gonna try to contact the seller outside of eBay.12/20/2011 8:11:11 AM |

^^ Wat. Angie's List offers discounts on their memberships all the time. You'd be a fool to pay full price for one. It's no different from buying Campbell's soup only when it's on sale. You could buy it when it's full price, but why bother when it's on sale every other week?
Also, I have no idea why I said Craigslist earlier. I meant Groupon

Less about waiting for a sale (which is fine) and more about bugging one of your friends for a hook-up (which is not). 12/21/2011 6:53:44 AM |

Again I'm not seeing the issue? Angie's List sends us shit all the time, "Buy your buddy an account for $10! Buy one for $20!" If I had a friend right now interested in signing up I'd give them the code. It's no skin off my back and obviously what Angie's List wants you to do otherwise they wouldn't always have some version of the friend deal going on. 12/21/2011 7:38:17 AM |

Yea I don't see any problem with what wolfpackgrrr said. It doesn't really seem that similar to the scenario that FroshKiller posted.

I'm a big fan of using Angie's List, had to get HVAC work done last year and all my experiences were great. 12/21/2011 9:37:51 AM |
