Unreal this isn't watchable. Hopefully we aren't far from turning the corner where our program isn't such an afterthought that we can't even get on television when facing a top 100 team.

It was always a long shot to even be considered for an at-large bid this season so not every game we play needs to be framed as a possible entry on a tournament resume. We just need to learn how to win basketball games and every game we win "helps us" achieve that.

^^ I'm not sure what these close losses are that you are speaking of.

We've been handled twice on our homecourt by double digits. We blew a double digit lead with like 5 minutes left in one game. And we lost on a neutral court to a likely non tournament team by 7.

If it wasn't for a miracle win over Texas when their best player fouled out on a technical foul and a nailbiter win over a bad Princeton team we'd be having a horrible season.

So it's not inaccurate at all to say this season has gotten away from us.

We're not even close to being on the bubble right now, and the NIT even looks unlikely at the moment.

Can we improve? Sure. Does it look likely? No.

Let's keep these discussions limited to reality okay.

Only the biggest dumbfuck in the world (face) thought we would be an NCAA tournament team this year so yeah I will take NOT having our ass handed to us by anyone as a positive step. In case you don't remember, at this point last season we had lost by 39 to an unranked Wisconsin team and we had an undoubtedly more talented roster.

I was the one in here trying to tell people that we were on the outside looking in of the NCAA tournament this year during the preseason and after several games.


But did I think we'd be THIS bad?

Of course not.

I doubt there is a single person on this messageboard that thought we'd start the season this poorly. Is there anyone here that thought we'd play WORSE defense this season (by quite a wide margin) than at anytime under both the Herb & Lowe eras???

This season has definitely rattled everyone's perceptions of what Gottfried would do. Yes, he installed a solid offense that with our talent has us putting up huge numbers... but we're playing the worst defense we've had since statistics were invented.

Who in the hell thought our defense would get worse with Tracy, Javi, & Harrow leaving and a new coach incoming???

We do the opposite of hedging the screen. Instead of the big man stepping up to stop the ball handler from shooting or driving, our big man retreats immediately backwards to the hoop.

So, the dribbler instantly gets an open jumper, and he can just follow our big man to the basket and shoot a short range shot.

It's the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

So we lost our leading scorer and and both point guards from last years team (which btw didn't even go to the NIT) and you expected us to be an NCAA tournament team? I think everyone who was in the least bit rational understood that this was an NIT team at best. But here comes face flipping the fuck out about how we aren't an NCAA tournament team. You really must be a complete dumbfuck...

So what is the inexcusable loss we have had so far this season? Vandy? I mean there has to be a reason why you think this was so unexpected of a start. So far we have won the games we should have won and lost the games that we should have lost. Only surprise is we haven't had a complete melt down and lost a game we shouldn't have or been blown out.

We should win this one. I don't think any of us expected a tourney birth this year, but I did think we had an outside shot with how down the ACC is this year. What I can say is that we have been competitive in all of our games this year and at times looked like we had a good shot at winning every game. That was my hope for this year and everything seems to be going well with that plan.

I've seen both Painter and Howell step out to help out on the screen. Our guards aren't recovering and getting through the screens fast enough to get back on their man.

The only loss right now that looks bad is Vandy. If we played them again I'm confident we would win.

Texas is 10-2. They should've beat us. They lost to Oregon St. in overtime right before us.
Indiana is 11-0. They beat fucking Kentucky. Yes we should've won this game but oh well.
Stanford is 10-1. Their only loss is to Syracuse. Can't blame them for that one.

We have played one hell of a schedule. Anyone that compares this preseason to every season that Lowe has started is dead wrong. Our offensive production has seen a remarkable improvement. Our defense is bad on the perimeter, and we have no depth. I'm overly pleased with Gottfried's progress so far.

Javi and Harrow were awful at defense. Tracy was alright at defense his junior year but he sucked dick again at defense and rebounding his senior year because of the knee injury.

Lobo is three times better at PG than either of the shitheads we had last year, so I'm not sure why anyone thought our team and defense would be WORSE this season with a new coach and more experienced players.

Don't think there's a local feed. The game is technically at a neutral site so I think that's the main reason why. It looks like they normally have some kind of video for their normal home games, but this isn't one of them.
