F6 no longer highlights the url bar. Cursors disappear in text boxes. The "End" key no longer jumps to the end of the page. Who is going to the trouble to actively fuck this shit up?

Apparently Mozilla just took a giant-ass bribe from Google to continue featuring the search engine (and to dial back the competition with Chrome, as a personal favor, I'm sure)

Also, Adblock Plus (the only reason to use Firefox in the first place, to be honest) just sold out big time and will now stop blocking all ads in exchange for a similar bribe.

Everyone has their price.

Stop spreading FUD about ABP: https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads#criteria
Quote :
"Which ads are "acceptable"?
We currently have the following requirements:
-Static advertisements only (no animations, sounds or similar)
-Preferably text only, no attention-grabbing images
-At most one script that will delay page load (in particular, only a single DNS request)
These criteria are not final, we are working on improving them. In particular, we want to require that user's privacy is respected (mandatory Do Not Track support). However, we are not yet in a position to enforce that requirement."
The text "Do Not Track" links here: http://donottrack.us/

That's what I said. They will stop blocking all ads. As in, they will allow some ads. I want an addon that blocks all ads.

you mean firebug is the only reason to still use FF

[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 11:14 PM. Reason : it'd be a pretty sweet browser if it wasnt a buggy mess]

^^Not only that, but if you had been subscribing to some privacy-related list, like Fanboy Tracking or EasyPrivacy, that option would remain unchecked upon upgrade to ABP2.0+

^^^ABP never actually blocked *all* ads in the first place: Instead, the filter-lists it relies on have long tried to balance false negatives (letting content through that was within the scope of the list) with false positives (breaking websites or merely blocking legitimate content); this is why the major filter-lists actually have whitelist entries of their own, especially the ever-popular EasyList.

I post a shit-ton about ABP on its forums and also on the forums for EasyList and Fanboy's List, the two most popular ABP filter-lists; lately I've been defending the decision of Wladimir Palant and his recently-founded EyeO GmbH to keep ABP from making an ad-supported Internet unworkable as its popularity grows, by encouraging ad networks and site owners to use less-intrusive ads in exchange for their exposure to the unwashed masses who just "set it and forget it" and don't bother tweaking the ABP settings or subscribing to more than the bare minimum of one (non-privacy-related) filter-list that the extension automatically suggests at first launch.

[Edited on December 22, 2011 at 11:16 PM. Reason : also at first ABP blocked *nothing* by default, because it didn't even suggest any lists

Chrome dev tools are significantly easier to use than firebug. Firebug console is still the best.

IE9 dev tools are a fucking shitstorm.

Wait, smc, are you still using a version of Firefox LESS than 6? I think I'm on 9 now ... I can't even remember what 6 looked like.

I'm using Firefox 9, which is where all the problems are coming from. Pressing F6 now highlights a tab instead of the url bar, which is now Alt D. The down arrow(before you click the page) is now Page Down instead of gently scroll page down. To scroll page down you click the page and down arrow moves a cursor down like in a text editor. Home and End are gone, replaced by Ctrl Home. Dang kids messing up all my shortcuts.

This help file is apparently obsolete now
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts

As a conspiracy theorist, I propose that Google bribed them to make the interface match Chrome.
