I downloaded the original version to the PS3 from the Sony store and played the shit out it. My friends and I had some epic battles back in the day.

Must get my hands on the demo today. Thanks for dropping that knowledge.

I also didn't realize that Twisted Metal Head On was a different game than Twisted Metal Black.

I need to get my PS2 back from Dad so I can run through that one.

^ same here. whenever i didn't have shit to do on a weekend i'd stay up playing that game till dawn back in the day. i loved putting as many enemies as possible on the NY and Antartica levels and bombing them off cliffs! and every match on the Antartica level got tougher because the land would drop away until you were fighting on a small ass patch of ice! haha damn i gotta play that again tonight!

Mr. Slam may have been my favorite character from the Twisted Metal series.

I've been playing the Demo on PS3 and it's not bad. The only vehicle I've used is Darkside. I'm not sure if I like the fact that you pick driver independent from vehicle. I think I liked it better when the car and driver were a unit with a backstory, but we will see how the full version handles it.

I've never been a big fan of the area of effect attacks in those games simply because I thought the damage was low.

Early on in a crowd it's banging, but when you're down to targeting one or two cars I've had to rely on scouring for pickups.

[Edited on January 31, 2012 at 9:43 PM. Reason : Apparently it locked on to one target in the second one? rated a 3/5 ]

The last video game I played with my dad. He usually ran Axel and I ran Shadow. We played the crap out of that game almost every night. Of course now I've moved out and shooters aren't his thing. Good memories. I still have that scratched-all-to-piss disc laying around somewhere.

For me it was one out of maybe 2 or 3... the only other game I remember him playing with me or my brother was the original Super Mario Brothers.. but I was barely old enough to articulate a controller properly at the time. I definitely look back on it as a pretty special thing. He's not technologically-inclined in the least with respect to the computer "age" (grew up on a farm/golf course, never really had any tech other than mechanical stuff). I imagine half the reason he even played was just to spend time with us.

If any of you have a way to play PS1 games and love the Twisted Metal series, there is a game you need to play called Rogue Trip.

It was made by the folks who made TM2 before the franchise got shipped to 989. That game is AMAZING when playing 2 player Co-Op.

I'd say I've beaten it well over 100 times with my friend.

[Edited on February 1, 2012 at 12:02 AM. Reason : Critical Depth for PS1 was neat too but way too hard for me.]

i love rogue trip.

i, too, am a huge fan of twisted metal 2. definitely towards the top of my all-time list. we played it with my uncle a lot growing up, seems a lot of people had an easy time getting adults to play

as i recall, that game was pretty tough, but it gets much easier if you unlock minion.

that intro MisterGreen posted, as well as all the endings for all the characters, were awesome.

I always loved the dark endings for Twisted Metal 2, and each one was worth the effort to view it.

As far as I remember the same goes for TM: Black for the most part, but beating Warhawk or whatever was ridiculous with some characters.

I'm glad to see someone else played Rogue Trip. I still have my copy and just pulled it out of the closet.

LOL I'd forgotten about the black CDs PS1 used.

[Edited on February 1, 2012 at 12:50 AM. Reason : Apparently the wikipedia for Rogue Trip needs more info.]

I got into Multiplayer online today and wrecked some shop with Darkside. I took a share of first place in my first match.

ahhh Twisted Metal 2. Man did I play the fuck out of that game. Makes me sad that nothing else in the series really offered an experience similar to that game.

I still remember the cheat code to use Minion's special on any car - Up, Down, Up, Up + Machine Gun.

I think New York was my favorite level. When playing with friends they hated it because you could fall off the buildings

The One Player Challenge mode is hard as balls. I've read that the AI will not be as tough in the full release.

Getting into a multiplayer deathmatch online is tough, but they are working on it and I believe it's easier to get onto now than it was this afternoon and certainly easier than last night.

I'm definitely looking forward to the full release here in a couple of weeks.

I am a bad man online with the big rig, but it seems like kids who are really good with the copter or the bike can beat me in deathmatch.

Yeah, the computer is tough in Challenge mode, but the AI in the full release shouldn't be as difficult.

It takes a handful of tries, but if you keep at it you will eventually get in and it's worth it.

I use the controls where gas/turbo is R2, Tight Turn is L1 and Brake/Reverse is L2, change weapons are Triangle and Circle. Not sure the name but I hope that helps.

I use Darkside, so maybe I can make my turning better, but I haven't had a need to. I've been decimating people in Deathmatch all weekend.

Don't have a ps3 so I won't be playing this but man this thread brought back the memories of TM1 and 2, I played the hell out of those games. I am not sure if I would enjoy that type of game now but it definitely makes me wish I had a ps3 right now.

I <3 winning a deathmatch with Darkside and seeing two or three people switch to the big rig only to get destroyed and go back to their usual ride.

Story mode has been pretty easy until I got to Iron Maiden, that was a bitch.

Putting in lots of time in multiplayer on the demo has paid off I guess. I just unlocked Darkside.
