I need 3 strong people to help me get an old 12' long solid wood work bench out of my grandfathers basement (not to far from campus). I will rent a box truck (unless anyone has a trailer 12+ feet long in which case I will give extra money for the use of it). It then needs to be transported 15min (to north Raleigh) and unloaded into my garage. I am estimating about an hour total time maybe a hair more in the worst case scenario.

I am off of work through Friday and fairly open as far as time to do it but we would have to coordinate to get everyone there at the same time so a group of friend/roommates that can ride together would be 1st dibs for ease of coordination reasons. I am thinking $20 per person with an extra $5 to the driver. Let me know if you are interested. If you are a complete group of 3 also let me know when you can do it, otherwise I will try and work it out with the 1st 3 people who reply.

Thanks

12 foot bench wil ride, if it can flip upside down or on its back, just fine in an 8 foot bed truck with the tailgate down. Or on a small 8 or 10 foot utility trailer with the rear gate removed and lots of straps ont he load. I have transported full length church pews in the back of my F150 before.

I just went and remeasured, it is actually only 10.5 feet long so I am open to other transport options. I got all the drawers out and doors off to make it a little lighter but unless I can find a way to get the top off this thing is still crazy heavy.

^ was that an offer?

There are going to be 4 of us so it should be manageable. If I can get the top off it is probably only a 2 person job. I can get to the screws but they don't want to budge.

Due to the timeline in which I want to complete this the pot has been sweetened $30 a person - you must be available to do this before the end of day Saturday. As before extra money if you have an 8' bed truck or trailer we can use for the hauling.

Thanks for the interest.

Don't rent a box truck for that. Just go to Home Depot and rent their truck for $20.

I'm usually all over this sort of thing, but this one sounded particularly heavy.

^^^What's the catch with those trucks? Do they nickel and dime you with taxes/fees/mileage?

I had 2 people helping and it took an hour and 15 minutes total from the time the guys pulled up to when I dropped them back off at their cars. I got the14' box truck which held everything nicely and ended up only costing $45 about the same as 2 hours of the home depot truck plus the loading ramp came in really handy.

We were able to get the top off. I would have really needed the extra person if I hadn't been able to do that. But all in all it was pretty manageable.
