Everything about that video said "my daughters an immature little bitch...and I'm an immature little bitch who happens to be in a position of power over her."

I wonder what would happen if he sat her down and had a talk about her behavior?

p.s., your kids are supposed to hate you at that age. That doesn't give you an excuse to stoop to their level and beyond.

She'll probably just drop out of high school when she is 16 and move to Berkley to be a heroin addict.

awesome. probably not an effective way of dealing with a rebellious teenage daughter, but still better than being limp-wristed about it

Pretty much agreed.

I don't really have a problem with the "tough love" attitude. Don't have a problem with emptying a magazine into your laptop that you had been allowing her to use. I mean, practically, it's not as good as just selling it, but the point was to make an impact with the theatrics, and I would have to assume that if nothing else, it did that.

I do have a problem with the "tough love" being heavy on "tough" but not displaying any "love" that I can discern. I also have a problem with the over-the-top unreasonability displayed. Grounded for years? Ummmmmm... ... ...OK. He just generally doesn't come across as a reasonable and grounded individual.

On the right track, but poor execution.

^yeah, not advocating being limp-wristed. God help my daughter if she ever thinks I'll be limp-wristed]

haha that is exactly what I told my wife

maybe get the shell of a laptop or do some fancy editing to make it look like I was blasting it for added effect, but I would get some monetary value back from that stuff. I actually did like the dad that put up the kids Xbox or whatever it was on eBay- that is probably more my style

"HOW SHE GOT CAUGHT: The Dog Did It.. no, really.

I finally came out and told her this today, partly because it was too funny NOT to share.

When my daughter made her post, she used Facebook's privacy settings to block "Family" and "Church" friend's lists. All her other friends could see it. We, of course could not.

One of our dogs is always getting in photos and therefore has her own Facebook page. It's just a cute dumb thing we did for fun. Well, the dog's profile is rarely used except when funny pictures of her are posted. Since that's not too often, and she has very few friends on Facebook, her wall is kind of bare, with relatively few posts showing up on it.

The other night we gave the dog a bath and there was a funny photo we uploaded to Facebook and tagged her in. I logged in as the dog the next morning to comment on the photo. However when I logged into the dog's profile, my daughter had forgotten to add her to the "family" list.... so our family dog's profile showed her post right there on the front page.

It wasn't any parent-hacking, computer spying, or monitoring of any kind.. the dog actually ratted her out completely by accident. She hasn't petted that dog all day today..."

These are my thoughts watching the video. I mean, you can pick at particular points, but it's the overall picture that matters.

He's involved in his children's life. A little emotional, resentful, and reciprocating of negative acts. Unfortunately, that's the way of human relationships. Those points don't matter as much as the fact that he's available for his children.

He wants to teach his daughter about respect. He wants to teach his daughter how to be an adult.

He demonstrates how to show respect as an adult by emptying the clip of a .45 handgun into someone else's property.

I'm all for disciplining your children; especially for something like this. However, this isn't discipline. This isn't a life lesson. This isn't setting the example. This is simply a guy who felt the need to humiliate his daughter. He probably didn't think about how she has to go to school and deal with the taunting, teasing, and bullying that are going to occur from this incident.

She'll probably hate him for the rest of her life.

She'll also probably be out of the house soon. If I had to bet, some loser with a GED and a $9.50/hour salary will knock her up soon and she'll go live with him in his trailer. The only thing that this taught his daughter is that her emotional well-being meant nothing to her father.

And his argument about his life being hard is the reason that some kids get ahead in life and others don't. If he's successfully planted his family in the middle-class then she doesn't need a job, an overloaded school schedule, a volunteer role in some civil service organization, and her own place. She needs to focus on her schoolwork, get into a good college, graduate, and get a decent-paying job that will allow her to keep her family in the middle-class. Maybe if her father's parents had made it to the middle-class then his life wouldn't have been so hard.

So while he was off working, going to high school while taking college classes, being a volunteer firefighter, and maintaining his own place, some other kid was going to high school, keeping up with his studying, and probably getting some occasional pussy from a high school slut.

That kid probably has a much better life, financially and emotionally, than this attention-seeking 'father.' There are numerous sociological studies that support this.

It's cool and funny because it didn't happen to us. No different than any other misfortune that falls on others. The silver-lining is that the father is probably banging Linda, so I expect his daughter to expose that on YouTube in the near future.

[Edited on February 10, 2012 at 4:11 AM. Reason : No other explanation for the YouTube video except seeking attention.]

If he paid for it, upgraded it, and clearly has the power to give and take away the right to use it, then I'd say that makes it his own property. I was raised under the policy that I had to earn the right to use the computer, TV, toys, etc. The only things that were never at risk of being taken away from me were my books. Then in high school when I got a job anything I paid for with my own money was my property, but still anything my parents paid for was theirs and I just got to use it if I deserved to (specifically the car).

I think shooting the laptop was over the top (and dumb considering the money he spent...at least give her the chance to earn it back) and he should have confronted her directly and had a conversation about WHY she felt the way she did.

Another thing people often forget is that when someone is venting they don't necessarily think straight and don't mean everything they say. You have to take a deep breath and be calm when reacting to something that was clearly written under stress and negative emotions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW3PFC86UNI&ob=av3e

Found this on the dude's wall...looks like the whole incident is actually bringing he and his daughter closer together:
Quote :
"Once the initial anger passed, she sat with me reviewing some of the comments that have come in via Facebook and YouTube. One person even suggested collecting the shell casings and auctioning them on eBay. I said I’d do it if it would help contribute to her college fund! When I told her about it, she thought a minute, got a funny calculating expression on her face and said, “in that case you should shoot my phone too. We can use more bullets and I’ll go half-sies with ya on it! It’s not like I’m going to need it any time soon. And I can use the money we get to buy a new one.”"

^That whole thing is his attempt to calm the negative reactions.

Would you believe Hitler if he said that the gas chambers actually increased relations between Germans and Jews?

Part of the video deals with him talking about how they grounded the daughter previously for doing something very similar, and that she better not think about doing it again.

It doesn't sound like he is still married to her mother, but she agreed with him on his course of action since he put one in for her as well.

Therefore I assume the kid had it coming and both parents felt like a message needed to be sent.
