Well The old republic was terrible, but it reanimated my desire to play mmo's incessantly. Is anyone gonna give this a shot?

I didn't really like guild wars 1 but this is apparently way different

This has been a Krallum presentation

I have zero interest, but my friend who I got into WoW a few years back has already told me that he "is" buying me this game just so he'll have someone to play with...

Pretty excited for it. Going to play a tiny necro for sure. The dynamic events and pvp look great so far. 2012 is going to be all D3, swtor, and GW2 for me.

bump.

Supposedly there's a free beta weekend next weekend (april 27th) anyone know if this is an open beta (i.e. sign up and play) or do we need to pre-order the game to gain beta access.

You have to pre order to play the beta weekends.

I have played Guild Wars on and off for 6+ years - enough to the point I earned the God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals title in game and maxed out the Hall of Monuments. I'll definitely be picking this up, even if I don't play as much as I used to. I do know I'll be getting into PvP from day one. I missed that boat in GW1, but ended up becoming a pretty dominant player in Random Arenas.

I will miss the monk class. I played my monk the most, amassing 2100+ hours of play over the last 7 years. I'm guessing I'm going mesmer from the start in GW2. That was a totally underappreciated class for most of GW but was a blistering PvP toon.

I'm having SERIOUS issues picking a class and it doesn't help that ill be in Atlanta next weekend unable to play. First it was necro then mesmer and now thief. I haven't even looked in to ranger because I'm afraid ill like it too :/

playing d3 made me want something a bit more mmo'y, but Tera was my initial choice. playing the free beta for a bit though made it seema bit meh question wise, even if combat is cool.

having read about this now, it sounds different enough from some other MMOs to actually make me interested.

i was a bit meh about GW1 when i played it during launch, but this sounds pretty different. I'm fairly excited though I wish it had a release date.

Anyone played the latest betas? I was thinking of picking this up, D3 has already gotten kinda meh for me.

Are there going to be additional betas/stress test weekends? I think I read that the last weekend beta was the finale, so I assume that means the game is close to release?

I bought Guild Wars when it first came out and thought it was fun but didn't enjoy it enough to play all that much (never enjoyed any MMO enough to spend that much time on it tbh), but I did love the opportunity to create and battle with max level characters without having to level up a character first.

They still haven't beta'd the last 2 races (Asura and Syvari) so the game is months away from release. The game will be released this year but I wouldn't count on it being released until at least 2 beta weekends after the last 2 races are released.

I never played GW1 and my only MMO experience is WOW but GW2 is pure action due to the emphasis on avoiding damage instead of just mitigating it. Even dying is an interesting battle mechanic. I've only played to level 15 so I can't speak on the dungeons. If you love battle pvp or objectives based pvp then I would recommend checking it. So far ArenaNet has done a great job of engaging the GW community and listening to constructive criticisms. My only concern is how their micropurchase model will work.

I am very, very, very, very excited about this game. Super excited. It will consume much of my life when it comes out. I really need to log into my old GW account to make sure all of my Hall of Monuments stuff transfers.

you can check your HoM status here:

I maxed out 50/50 - took a damn long time to do it all and amass the millions needed to get there. will probably be my last great hurrah of PC gaming as now I'm married and simply can't put that kind of time in anymore

AV used to last like 3 days MINIMUM. You'd summon a huge rock dude. Take down a bunch of towers. Push your god damn way all the way across a zone. The last time i did AV it was literally just a race to the two towers and last dude

I do miss going to bed and waking up to the SAME av battle going on.

Once I hit exalted with Frostwolf (3rd on server horde side) and got my TUF I mostly fished in av...and when ppl yelled at me I was like "Fuck you Im rank 14 and exalted, Ive earned it". Then me and like 10 buddies would get bored and finally end the game by rolling up and just wasting everyone (top raid guild + top pvpers = lols in vanilla)

Anyways back to GW2.....um yeah.....so saturday?

what classes do people think will be least played? Im thinking the mesmer?

And Im wondering how endgame will be if there is no holy trinity, how will they handle dynamics and make it not a kill boss and loot for everything.

i bet it depends pve vs pvp class wise. i saw plenty of everything in my brief beta experience, but id say that mesmers and necro were probably the least represented in my area.

I've played since the NDA beta and I can't decide what profession I'll play first. I know mesmer will be in the top 2 with guardian or engineer... or maybe ranger .... or warrior... I tend to gravitate to support classes. Necro and Thief didn't do anything for me because their mechanics felt like MOAR DPS spam but I never leveled them past 5 so my opinion means nothing. I'd be interested to see which class and race were the least played in the betas

GW2 will be considered a smashing success if Lokken is still playing it a month after it is released. Although there isn't much chance of that b/c he still thinks Diabl 3 is worth his time.

^^ same here. i went through many iterations of what to play.

i love the look of plate and flexibility so ill probably main a warrior (one fo the few classes i DIDNT play in beta).

ill probably play engineer in pvp since i like support in most games.

So, I'm completely unfamiliar with Guild Wars but one thing I overheard piqued my interest. I heard it was an mmo but had singleplayer. How does that work?

PvE, player vs. Environment....you do quests, follow a story line, you get henchmen in your party or can invite other players into your party. In towns and outposts is where you invite others and then when you leave you just fight the shit that's outside. But that was the old game, not sure exactly what to expect with GW2.

Never played GW1 but GW2 is nothing like the original (you can jump in GW2). Unlike WoW, leveling to the cap involves typical quests but you also have a personal story that is unique to your race where you follow some epic storyline to fight the great evil. You can level to max in GW2 without creating a party because there are no kill steals or tagging. Anyone that helps in killing a mob gets credit automatically. So it's just like WoW only you actually want to help out other people kill a mob.

Its an MMO and diablo 3 isn't? The difference is like the difference between monopoly and risk.

Didn't read the first game of this type thing so i'll be nicer. Basically in GW2 Instead of maxing out at 4 or 5 people in a game, there will be thousands of people on a server. It won't be Isometric view or whatever the term for actual 3d isometricism is and it will be better than its successor unlike D3. MMOs are typically more social (although it seems like they're trying to change the way in which they're social). Unlike diablo 3 where you join a game and no one says anything, you'll probably be in a guild or 2 and have a group of people you do shit with, and the premise of the game won't be to do the same 4 zones over and over again...

Its really a world of difference, the only similarity will be that you're some kind of sci fi/fantasy type character casting spells/abilities and killing things that don't exist in reality.

seriously. i loved everything about that game. total customization of your character, no zones, awesome pvp where you could loot people's items. i don't play those kinds of games much anymore, but if a similar experience were still out there, i would definitely give it a try.

the allegiance system was awesome, i remember there was this huge clan called "blood" on the pvp server that, as a rule, killed everyone on sight. it was such a big group of people, it was pretty much them vs the whole server to control cities and hunting grounds. /nostalgia

^I was a member of Blood, and my "lord" was the second in command. I stayed in that clan until freshman year of college (so about 8 years)--they were the most cutthroat PvP group out there. Damn I miss that game.

EDIT: So I told myself I wouldn't get GW2, but last night I watched videos about World vs. World and I don't think I'm going to be able to pass on this. That is absolutely the kind of PvP format that I adore.

gg. The easy way to level up is to go to high as fuck lvl areas and kill shit because you get so much bonus xp for mobs that have been alive in the server since day 1

How do you kill the higher level mobs when you dont scale up when you enter the zone? I tried to go to a 45 zone and stuff 1 shots me. Or are you getting sidekicked up to that level by someone else?

buy it and if after a week you don't like it, I'll paypal you 20 bucks for your account

i like it so far. i miss some of the GW1 things...i really preferred instanced areas with parties of just 4-12...but it's cool seeing what a true MMO acts like. i'm just lvl 9 so I have no clue what the main game holds. if GW2 has an iota of the support GW1 had from ANET it will be another outstanding game
