I'm having heck of a hard time trying to get laptop video to show on my HDTV using the VGA to Component cable. I thought it was a simple plug and go but no. I tried all night and even downloaded Powerstrip, but I don't know what the right settings are.

The only time I could get any type of distorted video was when I switched to 1280 x 720 @ 60Hz. Can anyone help me with the right settings? Thanks!

My Laptop:
ThinkPad T60p (14" standard) with ATI Mobility FireGL v5200

My TV:
Panasonic TC-P42X1 720p

It will only work if your laptop video card specifically supports it.

You can't just convert a VGA pinout to a Component video pinout. It's not a strict mechanical conversion.

This is the ONLY VGA->Component adapter that ATI has ever released

It only supports some cards, but you might get lucky and have it work with yours.

i've had multiple laptops with both VGA and S-Video outs, and every time I hooked up to an external VGA monitor and Function+whatevered it worked just fine, but I've always had issues with going from PC to TV using S-Video...seems dumb if they'd include S-Video outs on a system with a graphics card that didn't support it

I looked at the suggestions in your other thread and unfortunately, I never came back to comment there. I had a pretty good hunch that it wouldn't work for what you were after.

I'm successfully using one of the converters Shaggy linked in our conference room to allow people with older laptops to use our LED. I forgot to run "every cable the TV accepts" through the wall and only have 2 HDMIs near the podium.

These two items have given me both vid and audio through HDMI with very little problems. Maybe some overscan issues that would be solved with powerstrip or equivalent and maybe a custom resolution. I didn't mess with it long enough to see if the quality would eventually match the d-sub input on the TV, but it does work.
