Yes she is. To me the interesting part of the story is the ever-evolving “coed”. (in quotes because in the beginning she was described as a Georgetown law student) It was then revealed that prior to attending Georgetown she was an active women’s rights advocate. In one of her first interviews she is quoted as talking about how she reviewed Georgetown’s insurance policy prior to committing to attend, and seeing that it didn’t cover contraceptive services, she decided to attend with the express purpose of battling this policy. Let me put that another way, she specifically knew the university didn’t cover it and chose to attend for precisely that reason. During this time, she was described as a 23-year-old coed. Magically, at the same time Congress is debating the forced coverage of contraception, she appears and is even brought to Capitol Hill to testify. The other day, in an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show, it was revealed that she is 30 years old, NOT the 23 that had been reported all along. Someone whined, "Oh she is just being ambitious." Bullshit and any mbition she has is misguided and misplaced. Instead of attacking an entity that doesn't provide birth control due to it's beliefs why doesn't work for or start an entity that provides BC for those that can't get it? No, she did this only because she is interested in giving someone else a black eye. She has no interest in birth control.
Should Rush have apologized for calling her a slut and prostitute? Yes, because he was clearly wrong. So, he apologizes and she dismisses it so she can continue portraying herself as the victim . What should have called her is a deceitful muckraking cunt. Is the media biased? You bet it is and because there is only one conservative tv news org the bias is heavy on the liberal side.
Now, in the grand scheme of things what does this matter? It doesn't, but it is something for simple minds to latch onto and for politicians to use as wedge issue. This a non-issue made into an issue because no one is smart enough or has the balls to talk about the most important issues; The budget, deficit reduction, foreign policy, tax policy, defense policy and economy. 3/9/2012 6:27:39 AM |

earning wealth via work in private sector - tax the everloving fuck out of it (unless you are unionized)
earning wealth in the govt - treat teachers like shit, cut govt defense research, start theaters of war in some places but not others, create large monolithic inefficient monopolies and oligopolies

FYI women take "the Pill" once per day as long as they wish to prevent pregnancy, even if they have sex rarely (this rate does not depend on the frequency of sexual activity); in addition, oral contraception is sometimes taken for its side effects (large doses of estrogen and progesterone do more than just trick the uterus into thinking it already has a baby implanted and thereby rejecting any blastocyst that comes by). o btw, an interesting example of taking something like "the Pill" for its side effects is seen in transsexual women, who among other things take hormone pills that are like megadoses of "the Pill"~♥3/9/2012 11:55:51 PM |

Christ I hope there's not anyone out there who actually needed that FYI. Not only does the day matter, but the time does, which is a fact that makes it a little more difficult to juggle in life-balance.

Str8Foolish All American 4852 Posts user info edit post |
Bear in mind also that this isn't about the government providing contraception, but requiring insurers to provide it as part of women's health. This actually saves money and lowers premiums because women on birth control don't get pregnant, which is extremely costly, or give birth, which is also costly. They don't have to raise these unintended children on their insurance, which can be costly since those kids are more likely to live in poor households where they'll suffer more illness. The bottom line is that providing birth control reduces premiums, because unintended pregnancies are extremely costly to insurance companies. There's a host of non-pregnancy-related afflictions that women can avoid by taking regular birth control.
http://www.businessgrouphealth.org/benefitstopics/topics/purchasers/condition_specific/evidencestatements/contraceptiveuse_es.pdf
It's not about money, it's about slut-shaming, that's it. If it were just about the money, nobody would be objecting.
Quote : | "The economic burden of unintended pregnancy is substantial, both to employers and the society at large. The economic cost of an unintended pregnancy to an employer includes either A) the cost of termination or B) the cost of prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care for the woman and the cost of continuing medical care for the infant as long as s/he remains a beneficiary.
Unplanned pregnancies, compared to planned pregnancies, often result in higher total medical claims costs and lost productivity costs because women whose pregnancies are unintended are less likely to have proper folic acid intake, are less likely to breastfeed, and are more likely to continue smoking during pregnancy. The adverse health outcomes associated with these behaviors lead to higher obstetric medical claims.
Unintended pregnancies result in substantial excess direct medical claims costs and indirect costs such as disability, employee replacement costs, lost productivity, and presenteeism.
Providing coverage for contraceptive counseling and contraceptive medications and devices improves access and use, thereby avoiding the substantial direct and indirect costs associated with unintended pregnancies, abortions, and unwanted births. The average cost of a 1-year supply of prescription birth control pills is $240 to $300 (in year 2005 dollars) and the cost of a single prescription of emergency contraception is $20 to $150. These costs are lower than the “treatment” costs for an unintended pregnancy.7 For example, the average cost to employers of: • A first term abortion is approximately $468 (in year 2003 dollars).7 • A normal vaginal delivery (without complications) is $7,340 (in year 2005 dollars).7 • A cesarean delivery (without complications) is $12,257 (in year 2005 dollars).7 • The delivery and first year care of a premature infant is $41,610 (in year 2001 dollars).18
Comprehensive contraceptive coverage is relatively inexpensive. The average total cost (including administrative costs) of adding coverage for all reversible methods of contraception is $25.31 per employee, per year. The added cost to employers of providing contraception coverage (assuming 20% employee cost sharing) is $1.69 per employee, per month (all figures from 1998, adjusted to year 2005 dollars using the NASA Inflation Calculator).
In 2004, the private-sector cost of preventive medicine evaluation and management averaged $107 per session; approximately 95% of paid claims fell within the range of $45 to $165 per session.
Treatment costs of an unintended pregnancy include the cost of termination ($428) or the cost of prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care and the ongoing cost of care for the infant. The cost of labor and delivery alone ranges from $7,3406 to $41,610 (figures in year 2003, 2005, 2001 dollars, respectively). The cost of prenatal care and ongoing infant/child care varies substantially, but it can be assumed to be significant if the child remains a beneficiary until 18 to 25 years of age.
Researchers estimate that over a 5-year period, employers can save $9,000 to $14,000 (in year 1993 dollars) by providing comprehensive contraceptive coverage. Experts suggest that employers may begin to see some savings in the first year of coverage." |
