http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/michael-bay-taking-mutant-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-202841767.html

Quote :
"Michael Bay seems to be at it again: This time the creator of mega-blockbusters is planning to produce a new, live-action version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." But, if he has his way, he may need to change the name to "Not So Mutant" Alien Turtles. Definitely less catchy.

The "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" director told a crowd recently at the Nickelodeon Upfront New York event that instead of the series fans have loved about a mutant strain of turtles from earth who are obsessed with pizza and turn into two-footed creatures thanks to some transmutant goo, Bay's reptiles will simply be an alien race.

As first called out on the blog StuffWeLike, Bay explained his vision for the 2013 remake: "When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie." Wha? And then, "The turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely loveable."

For those a little fuzzy on these "loveable" creatures: First, it was a cartoon. Then it became a live-action film franchise in the 1990s. The original story revolves around four mutant two-footed turtles who are trained by a rat on the art of being ninjas, and are named after Renaissance artists. The four fight crime from their home base in the sewers of New York City.
The comic book, then television show, and finally film franchise were popular in the late '80s and early '90s. It is, in short, the perfect vehicle to be mucked up by Bay. At least that's how fans reacted on Twitter and blogs.

Illuminati tweeted, "Michael Bay is re-making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If Michael Bay destroys this classic, he will surely be sacrificed for his mistakes."
A fan of the "TMNT" bemoaned, "'TMNT' fans, prepare to have Michael Bay destroy your childhood the same way he's already done with mine. Three words: They are aliens." The A.V. Club opined, "Bay's willingness to reshape Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bows to no canonical authority—not even that inherent in its title."
The blog /Film agreed, arguing, "If you're going to make a movie about mutant turtles, that's what they should be, right?" Bay will produce the movie. Jonathan Liebesman ("Wrath of the Titans") will direct.
Fans can be on the lookout for the new, probably explosion-filled, action-packed alien version of "TMNT" that is scheduled to open December 25, 2013."

the only way to make the alien race thing work is if it was a completely dark and extremely violent alternative turtles movie.

a reboot like the new batman movies, etc.

but i agree this is bullshit as it stands.

the turtles will come in on a space ship and it will be all like "kaawooossshhhhhhhh"

then shredder will send a missle after them and it will be all like "wheww....KABOOM!!!"

then splinter will blow up shredder's base like "WABOOOOMMMMM!!!!!"

I was hoping this was going to be a PROPER turtles 3 instead of that abomination we had before. even the TMNT animated movie was ok.. I just want the rubber suits back but familiar villains like rat king, the alligator, baxter the fly, crang, the rock soldiers from dimension X, bebop and rocksteady, etc

"Michael Bay to TMNT Fans: Chill!
Producer addresses fans in forum posting.

Michael Bay, the producer of next year's live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, has addressed the widespread negative reaction fans had upon hearing that Bay and Co. have reconceived the heroes in a half-shell as aliens.

In a posting at his Shoot For The Edit blog forum, Bay said, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

..Why wouldn't he just take the backstory from the new run of Turtles comics? They are on like issue 6, you know how they made the back story richer? They didn't make them aliens (which Bay claims gives the story depth) Nope, they still have the ooze origin, they still have master splinter teaching them moves, but Master Splinter is really their father and the turtles are his son. All reincarnated souls from Feudal Japan...Shredder is the reincarnated soul of their arch nemesis who killed them in japan....

Its silly, but nowhere near as silly as an alien race.

So if the turtles are alien turtles then what will Splinter be? I don't see why a race of alien biped rats would have one of it's members mentoring and being a father figure two four alien turtles. And how are they gonna have the names of Renaissance artists when they aren't even from this planet? I can't imagine that Leonardo would be called Leonardo on his home planet.

+1

I just saw a trailer on tv the other day for a new tv series called Dallas. It's about a guy named JR Ewing who runs an oil company.

I also don't like how someone made a remake of The Karate Kid. The original isn't old enough to have a remake done. If someone wants to do a remake of a movie then they need to pick a black and white film from the 1930s, 40s, or 50s.

The Karate Kid was 25 years old when the remake was made. I find it less shocking that they made a remake of it, more shocking that it was that long ago.

^I'm just not a fan of remaking color screen movies that aren't really old. They need to wait about another 20 years at least, before they start doing remakes of 1980s classics.

^Agreed. Spider-Man is the worst of this though. I remember going to see the Tobey Maguire version when I was a senior in high school. Waaaaaaay to early to make a remake.

I just hope no one ever tries to do a remake of the original Star Wars trilogy, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, The Goonies, Top Gun, Ferris Bulers Day Off, The Lost Boys, etc.

We aren't talking about sequels. There is nothing wrong with sequels except that they usually suck due to bad writing, time constraints and the fact that they're just trying to get money off the first movie.

We're talking about bringing back a movie from 10~25 years ago, adding some CGI the newest hot 17 year olds and calling it a day

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

Didn't you see that episode of Futurama where they revealed Leonardo da Vinci was actually alive and from another planet?

But yeah, this has catastrophe written all over it just like the Doom movie did when they stated it would be on a distant planet as opposed to Phobos (and the Mars area in general), and they would be fighting an alien virus as opposed to a gateway opened to hell.

Reading about this movie makes me sad. I love TMNT and still occasionally watch the old live action flicks from the early '90s. Alien race....really?....bah....that being said, I will most definitely be seeing it anyway.

All this movie will make me want to do is get copies of the old comics.

I wonder if mine are still lying around in storage somewhere. Although they probably got thrown out.

Hopefully Bay is just making a savvy attempt to piss off the older fans in order to garner interest for the movie, and then he'll announce that they "changed their minds" and are modifying the script to keep it more like the original origin story. IIRC the original story did actually involve aliens being the ones running the company that spilled the canister of ooze which was part of their big plan to get back home.

/At which point American Neo-Cons will shit themselves over the mutations being the result of corporate laziness.
//That's the comics origin, not the cartoon origin so don't yell at me

Krang will be based on the moon and attempting to harvest the human race for spare organs to sell on the intergalactic black market.

The turtles will be intergalactic cops trying to stop him. This will involve diverting an astroid into Krang's moon base.

April will still be a plucky reporter, but she'll work for a tabloid so nobody will believe her even though she's the only one who understands what is going on.

Casey Jones will be played by Rosie Huntington-Whitely and will, at some point, fix a car in nearly no clothing.

Rocksteady and Bebop will be Triceratons.

Splinter will be a psychic gerbil.
