Dumberer wasn't that bad. Saget at least makes it watchable.

If we watched the first one for the first time now, it would probably just be ok.

But we watched it in our comedic opinion forming prime, so it was awesome. Do you really think Gilmore and Madison are that much better than recent Sandler shit, or was it just a matter of vantage point?

I agree with this. Didn't think it was that bad. I remember dying laughing when Saget goes into the bathroom, "There is SHIT EVERYWHERE!"

The original is still my all-time favorite comedy. "That John Denver is full of shit"

^^Jim Carrey barely looks a day older. Jeff Daniels looks like he's been living on the street since the first movie.

I saw a trailer on TV the other day. Both are looking much, much older - which is understandable. The trailer also featured them doing some of the exact same things from the first movie. I hope that's just an attempt to use nostalgia to generate interest and that it's not a reflection of what the movie is going to be like.

Still, the TV spot made me

Not a good sign that it opens this week and nobody has seen nor reviewed it yet.

Why would critics review this movie? It's a goofball comedy that's going to recycle a lot of jokes from the original. No sane movie critic would give it a good review.

The movie critics that I follow watch and review EVERYTHING. Maybe the good old NandO will give it a pass, but it is very strange that the guys that I usually read have not seen it yet/commented on it. This is a definite bad sign for a movie btw.

Actually come to think of it, I have been reading a lot of movie reviews this year, largely due to the fact that this has been a great movie year. Aside from a book that I picked up called The German Genius, movie reviews take up the majority of my daily-reading time allotment.

I wouldn't care about what film critics have to say anyway. The original Dumb and Dumber got like 2 stars from Roger Ebert and is currently at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet I consider it to be one of the funniest movies of the 90s.

^To a certain degree I would. There is stupid comedy like Dumb and Dumber, then there is stupid comedy like Meet the Spartans. Dumb and Dumber is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

It is not about forming an opinion; that you have to do for yourself. What I find advantageous about reading good movie reviews is that they will typically analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a film that can provide lots of very interesting insights into the filmmaking business. For example, after I read up on horror films like Oculus and the Babadook, I learned quite about how directors can develop a suspenseful, emotional terror that creeps inside of you without relying on jump scares and creepy monsters. These are valid points that taught me something about the industry, although of course the author's overall opinion on the film may be biased by what he found interesting and/or exciting.

Ok, for those films, sure. But for Dumb and Dumber To? You wanna know what was going through the Director's mind when he brought back the blind kid to hold a bird? Or maybe when jim carrey fingers the old lady and has dust all over his hand?

comedy is just the same as horror. You can fill the seats with cheap tricks. See Hangover 3.

Kinda disappointed. I knew it wouldn't be as funny as the original but I didn't laugh as much as I thought I would. Oh well, I guess it had big boots to fill.

hate to say I told you so.

It's not about the fact that reviewers said bad things about it, but more importantly that the add team did not go with any major early screenings because they were worried that it might generate negative buzz that would hurt the opening weekend. This generally always means that the movie will disappoint.

Based on what I said, it had a 100% chance of disappointing. That is the point. There was a method to it, and y'all just hoped for the best, wasting your money on something when you would have otherwise just waited for the DVD release.

So, in reality, the machine won, and you guys ignored the prophet.

I'm still pleased I went to see it. It wasn't a waste of money. My wife and I both laughed at various parts, just not as much as I was hoping for. Regardless, I loved the first movie so much that the various throwbacks and nostalgia were worth it.

I watched it. Its a funny movie. I thought that the comedic style and types of jokes were exactly the same as the first movie. If you like the original then you should also enjoy this. If not then you apparently don't like the same type of comedy you did 20 yrs ago.

Movie critic scores don't really apply to movies like this. They are always going to give it shit review.

I didnt really like it.

I love the first one and its become a bit of a cult movie in a way...I felt like they were trying to morph back into those characters and it just didnt happen as it should.

It wasnt HORRIBLE...but it was not great. Some parts had me laughing but not nearly like the first one did.

Hard to do a sequel in comedies...cant really think of many that have worked.
