I made the first Minecraft thread. Might as well get started on Notch's next game, 0x10c.

"In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.

It's now the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, and the first lost people are starting to wake up to a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy."

LOL

This is a game in which you can program a 16-bit computer inside a space ship. Seriously.

Many, many people have already started writing tools: emulators, compilers, programs, etc. For example:

So....however neat it may be, is this the least accessible "game" ever conceived? This is a compiler.

Gah, no!

Obviously I butchered the explanation. This is a space exploration game. You fly around in a spaceship and do space battle and such. Having a fully functioning 16-bit computer is just a tiny part of it (the same way redstone is a small part of Minecraft).

Quote :
"Space battles against the AI or other players.
Abandoned ships full of loot.
Duct tape!
Seamlessly landing on planets.
Advanced economy system.
Random encounters.
Mining, trading, and looting."

It's actually not bad, I mean it's not really playable but it's a start. The minesweeper one is pretty cool.

I was not one of the guys who spent forever in the lab messing around with assembly.

I had CSC236 with Lasher, probably one of my favorite classes ever.

^^^I mean for being all assembly it's not bad at all, except a few times I've had un-jumpable spans haha.

Well, thanks. The levels are random. It took me a while to figure out how to generate random numbers in the first place.

No. It's super early at this point. Knowing Notch though, a playable alpha is probably on its way.

This thread made me read up on Notch (which I wanted to get around to) and Mensa. I didn't know Asia Carrera had an insanely high IQ along with Steve Martin, James Woods, Geena Davis, Quentin Tarantino, Sharon Stone and Luke from Modern Family.

i'm pretty pumped. people have already written programs for intercept trajectory to be used for weapons targeting. not to mention an entire operating system.

That almost turns me off to it...having to labor and write elaborate code in some bassackward made up assembly language just to compete

a lot of programs will/are freely available. coding is only necessary if you desire.

Haven't figured that out yet. I was able to cd, ls, and then execute the only two programs.
