Ok so this movie totally sucked major ass, but I just had a nerd moment.

This movie took place in the 50s, after WWII. The movie made many references to Indiana Jones serving in WWII as a spy, being a war hero, and conducting many covert missions against the Nazis.....now I ask you......wouldnt that story line have been a thousand times better than the crystal skull bullshit. Indy as a spy during WWII would have been a pretty cool concept for an Indiana Jones movie. Hell they could have had him stopping the Nazis from doing crazy occult shit, instead of lame ass aliens

that would be sweet. but pearl harbor happened only 3 years after the Last Crusade. That means Ford would be at least 15 years older than the character he was playing.

even movie magic has its limits

I am not saying that this was a great movie but, the big deal most people dont seem to realize is that the first three were based on the old adventure pulps from the 1930's. The last one was based more on the early scifi pulps that started coming out after ww2. When you factor that in this movie did a decent job at what it was trying to do. Of course, what it was trying to do was not as good as what the first three already did.

you mean like the first and third movie?

But yes, the crystal skull was all-around terrible. Even all the Adventures of Young Indiana Jones were better. I have since moved all my Indy love to Nathan Drake.

I really thought that the alien thing would have a logical explanation, not aliens. I didn't catch that other stuff about being a spy, probably because I lost interest early on. They really should have left this one out. I agree with Timmy that it's based on 50's sci-fi pulp so maybe they should have created new characters rather than try to draw people in with the old ones.

Indy as a spy/government agent just seems to go against everything the character stands for.

Adventure and Espionage are two totally different things.

THIS. It wasn't as bad as people think. Most of the audience just missed the point.

It doesn't matter what the movie is based on. It sucked. You can make good movies based on 50's era sci-fi pulps, Crystal Skull would not find itself in that company.

No movie outside of Tarzan and kids stuff should feature someone swinging around on vines in the jungle like that.

I assumed that the spy references were the Russians referring to Jones's actions in the first and third movies and misunderstanding his motives.

Or at least thats wht I would assume if this strange fourth Indiana Jones movie existed.

[Edited on May 3, 2012 at 9:56 AM. Reason : / yes, even though the movies were pre-WWII]

Great game. I played that thing through several times to explore all story arcs. It was really exciting, mysterious, and sometimes chilling for a kid in elementary school.

A lot of the humor I didn't get until later...

That game taught me what a Fez was.

Also, between that, Full Throttle, and the Monkey Island series, my childhood was more or less all point-and-clicks that would make excellent movies today.

They could - and should - make a Full Throttle movie that is 100% true to the source material.

i thought Jones was part of the OSS before he became a Professor and before the events of the first 3 Indy movies. so when he was involved in those story lines, he was no longer in the OSS.

Hmmmm... not that inserting real world timelines into a movie series.really works but the OSS was formed in 1942, while Last Crusade happened un 1938.

So I guess if the Russians thought he was a hero of the OSS then there must have been something noteworthy that happened between 1942-1945.

Damn, here I just thought the Russians had their wires crossed.

DO NOT SEE IT.. It will retroactively scar your childhood. We walked out of the theater with about 10 mins left of the movie.

So you missed the part where an alien got so pissed because someone was nice enough to return 1/13th of their skull that they decimated an entire valley/civilization of natives as they dropped mic and left the scene?
