I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this already. I've been holding off making one in hopes that someone else who is playing would, but oh well.

A buddy of mine tried to get me to join the CBTs back in February but I wrote it off as another Aion or Rift and was already wary about playing GW2. I finally decided to give it a try during their head-start weekend at the end of April and it's seriously the most fun I've had since vanilla WoW or the TBC betas. The game has actually been out in Korea for about a year and En Masse just brought it over here and westernized it a bit so that you're not playing some dull boring grindfest people don't bitch about needing 500 million xp to level up. It's all over 4chan, reddit, and SA but seems to only be traveling by word of "mouth" so just seeing if anyone here has any intention of playing. Currently have a level 41 Warrior on Dragonfall and it's a pretty unique class to play. It's like if you could play a Rogue in wow with 100% Evasion lasting either .5 or 2 seconds but with a cooldown of ~5s or 10s respectively.

The real key here is the combat system. There's no more RNG to decide whether you take damage or deal it. (Ok maybe to a certain extent things are still pseudo random) But for every encounter you have the ability to avoid attacks and most end game will hinge on your ability to be aware and gtfo of the way. If you're one of those people with downs that always stands in fire this game is not for you. But playing with some of you guys in the past I know that you'll like this game and highly suggest anyone to check it out. I may even be able to get a few buddy codes.

There's also a political system, where you can become vanarch and rule over certain zones and set taxes, decide which merchants are available and generally become known as "that dude". You can win by popular vote or you can fight your way to the top.

PVP is a bit weird and I play on a PVE server right now so I can't really tell you how it works, but I know that guilds can declare war on other guilds and they're going to add battlegrounds in the coming months.

I had read about it a couple of months ago and the videos looked pretty cool. Definitely wary to check out a new MMO though with diablo 3 coming out next week and GW2 coming up hopefully soon.

You have obviously been living under a rock if you don't realize that WoW is the shitty version of WoW.

I think this game will steal players from both games but more so GW2 as there are already players forgoing guild wars beta events to play Tera.

D3 maybe not so much. TOR is already dead.

It's a mediocre story with your typical korean-esque grind quests mixed in. The instances and boss encounters are just great.

Really though the selling point should be the combat system point blank. You've probably never played an MMO with the way that this one works and I can only say just try it. It looks like the demo is back up and I don't think you even need an account to check it out.

I won't lie and say I've played in the GW2 beta for comparison, I'm just regurgitating what everyone I've talked to that's currently playing or has played both said. There may be some bias.

the political system reminds me of the game 'asheron's call' from back in the day. i loved playing the pvp servers in that game where anyone could run up and kill anyone, anytime. good stuff.

^ at free that seems perfectly acceptable to me. that's more than I get out of most games. It definitely is one of the better free MMO options.

^^^ seems forever. you have to pay for more character slots (2 per server max right now) or for other shit, but most of that isn't really strictly required. it also seems to have a decent population on right now since it just went f2p.

Yeah, so NA lvl cap was definitely 60 last year . I think I had full T12 armor and swords if anyone likes the game and wants to throw a bit of loot my way they can have it. It's collectors edition with founder status and 1100 emp.

if ur someone who is really going to delve in,you can get a standard edition at walmart for about 20. if you are like me and likely to get bored in 3 months, u can just buy whatever.

this game is pretty fun

i have to play it on like 8-bit mode, but ive been looking for a good MMO for a minute. I like the battle system i chose to play a lancer of the little midget women (elkin?)

Rowdy Rondabar hit me up even though im like level 4

ive been PKd three times so far

am i the only one that feels the death penalty should be stiffer? its almost nothing to me because my gems arent even valuable as a level 13 lol.

im used to rage quitting, heart pounding in new areas, and being afraid to log back on for a while when i get PKd in other MMORPGS

ive been playing another game for the past 10 years off and on that i will literally play long enough to gain a level or some cool item and log the hell out (like less than an hour) before someone/a monster kills me. And i wont log in to play again for months because i dont want to die and lose skills or exp
