So about 3 weeks ago I got a citation for following too closely. I got in a fender bender. The fine is $320 in my county. But when I tried their automated pay system, my citation number was nowhere to be found. So I emailed them to ask and they said they don't have the citation on file and I should fax it in. Should I be that guy or just let it slide? Will it haunt me in the future? 5/19/2012 8:17:00 AM |

Either fax it or go take care of it in person. It's bot worth letting it slide, then coming back to potentially haunt you. 5/19/2012 8:26:22 AM |

I'd wait another couple weeks and try again. If its still not in there I'd say it's pretty safe to assume its not going to be 5/19/2012 9:42:58 AM |

Why dont you just show up for the court date, it isnt like you sign in or anything.
Wait and see if they call your name, if they do, you are there, if not, you were just someone watching court for a couple of hours. 5/19/2012 12:37:56 PM |

Why would you pay for this fine anyway? Normally you can get a letter from your insurance company saying they paid for the other drivers damages, and they drop the ticket. 5/19/2012 3:54:56 PM |

I had a very minor fender bender a while back (with Pam Saulsby...) and the cop wrote me a ticket, but told me to just get a letter from the insurance company saying they paid for the damages, and they'd drop the ticket. He said the purpose of the ticket was to just make sure i followed through on the claim.
My insurance company faxed me a letter saying it was taken care of, took it to court house on the day, they dropped the ticket without issue, i didn't have to pay court costs or anything.
It was very painless.
This was in Raleigh though, not sure about atlanta.

My coworker got a speeding ticket and the court date was during a time when he was going to be out of town.
He decided to go to convenience court the next week and go ahead and take care of it... it wasn't in the system yet.
He ended up having to wait almost 2 months before it was in the system. Takes forever it seems. 5/19/2012 6:47:39 PM |

Something similar happened to me. I was going to be out of the country on business travel at the time of the original court date. I had to ask the judge to reschedule, but when I did, they didn't have any record of the citation (yet) and asked me to scan it and mail it to them. D'oh! Long story short, I did it. Showed up for court, paid $180 fine, but no points. Not sure how it would have worked out, but it definitely sucked to scan the ticket and send it to them knowing they didn't have it on file. If I was able to make it to the original court date, I may have gotten a free pass. 5/20/2012 2:18:28 AM |

I was in for running a stop sign, judge asked if I had taken care of fixing the other vehicle, I said there was no other vehicle, judge dropped the ticket. 5/20/2012 9:25:33 AM |
