Just wondering if anyone has any experience with reputable locations to change a timing belt on this car. I got one estimate of 1200 which is WAY more than I spent last time I had it done. Less than 1000 would be nice.

I paid ~$900 at southern states VW for a 2005 MKIV VW TDI.
beethead's shop quoted me around the same, but it's too long a drive from durham-- but they do good work.
problem is too many shops won't even touch a car with a diesel engine. fuck 'em.
