It's a setup.

Viral marketing leading to whatever the concept of the album seems to be.

But I think it's pretty evident that they haven't "gone dubstep." The dubstep in the video sounds way too shitty, bland, and recycled to possibly be real.

"2nd"single released from The 2nd Law: Unsustainable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhKVych80ME&feature=player_embedded

WTF is that shit? That is just fucking awful. And why are they claiming this is the "2nd" single? The first song released from the album, Survival, was just some bullshit thrown together for the London Games and has had no commercial success (that I can see).

^^oh look, some D bag that posted in here just to slam them. Go fuck yourself.

okay apparently I'm mistaken. Survival and Unsustainable are just 2 tracks leaked. They're not going to be "singles"

Madness will be the first single, and it is coming out August 20th. Fingers crossed...

Commercial success doesn't define a single. A single is released and performs however it performs.

Also, you're begging to get people into this thread to slam a thoroughly mediocre band when you make a new thread instead of putting it in Music of 2012.

Muse is like laser Floyd doing U2 covers.

Reminder: U2 hasn't been relevant in 20 years.

If this was 2001 and Origin of Symmetry just came out, and nobody knew who the fuck Muse was, you'd be singing their praises.

But now they're one of the biggest bands in the world, so they're mediocre shit.

Such a fucking fraud.

That said, I wasn't a huge fan of The Resistance, so I'm holding out hope the 2nd law is a return to the Black Holes, and especially Absolution, sound.

You're acting like I wasn't around and listening to records in 2001.

When Coldplay's first record came out, a bunch of people said, "They're the new Radiohead!" Some said the same thing about Travis. No one who actually listened to the records concurred with that.

Muse is no different. Inoffensive, toothless rock music for people who like such things. Good for them.

Yep.

In the entire landscape of music that is being released, they aren't the worst* or the best. They just aren't a band you would ever think to listen to.

*But the olympic thing was truly awful -- right down there with the spice girls.

My other favorite bands include Sleater-Kinney and Pixies.

Both bands sold out their venues (of 650 and 2000 seats, respectively) the last time they performed here.

Not really sure what you're trying to argue there. Except that I'm flabbergasted that you like the The Pixies, a group I know of.

Just listened to Madness....ugh.

I actually rather enjoy the first few Muse albums. Nothing crazy, but they were fairly well put-together songs imo. However, I did not really like the last album (never bothered to go back to it after the first 3 listens or so) and this new stuff is just terrible.

don't a lot of people just view muse as a band that made a feckless attempt at being like radiohead in the late 90s/early 00s?

I just listened to Madness for the first time, its definitely different but not terrible. and FWIW, Matt Bellamy is one of my favorite all-around musicians out now

I heard that Madness song again this morning. So, so bad.

To expand on what I said earlier, I actually thought that Origin of Symmetry and Absolution were good records. And to be honest, Showbiz and Black Holes had their moments as well, but they have just fallen off a cliff.

I like Muse because their music gives pleasure to my earholes, not because they are super original, or they play obscure instruments and record in a bathroom, or because they all look in different directions when taking group photos.

That being said, Madness sucks balls.

Never said that. In fact that was part of the problem for awhile, after making a couple good records they DID just about do that. They didn't really branch out much. And I enjoyed that some but it got a little boring and now that they have tried to I just don't like what they've done. Just not a style I enjoy anymore I guess. That's all.
