Have been 30s for 1.5 year. Still unemployed. Always need to find role models to inspire myself. One of the roommates is 7 yrs younger than me, working hard everyday. Looking at her, I'm always frustrated.
Going to be a dad in Nov.,feels like I'm out of historic stage already.
How to keep motivation? Doing sports feels like good for me. How about other ways?

You mean taking more responsibilities? I'd feel I'm old and the stage is now given to them.

wtf are you talking about with this "giving the stage" nonsense? Your first post reeks of self pity. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and looking for someone else to motivate you. Role models are great, but you have to take responsibility for yourself. If you are jealous of your younger roommate's success/motivation, then do something about it, stop waiting for someone else to make/motivate you. The world doesn't owe you shit.

Also, if your child doesn't motivate you, I'm not sure what could. Everybody starts to feel old at some point, but get over it and be a man.

Haven't found a job for almost 4 years since graduation makes me feel frustrated, which is the main reason. Now feel better after doing sports twice a week.
Hope can quickly catch up with the lost time.

At 30 with two children, I feel more motivated than I ever have. There's something about having kids that really pushes you to be a better person.

Hitler hadn't even gotten into politics when he was your age. Forget this "historic stage" nonsense.

This.

You'll be a better person because when your kid looks back at you it will dawn on you that you're their fucking hero, and I promise you that feeling is pretty damned inspirational.

In China, 30 is like a gap for people's careers. They will automatically feel old. Some friends even said to me: Our time is used up.
Slept too much last night. 6.5 should be enough for me.

I'm almost 30 and I feel like it's my chance to take the stage, 20's you're still learning, 30's you've got it down and you've still got the drive to do it better.

The only thing I struggle with is keeping my social life where I want it, since everyone else is married and lame now. That's not very motivating.

Most of mine have kids, and then it doesn't matter if they're cool or not...they aren't going to go close down the bars with you anymore.

Yeah, trying to. Gonna have to pull from somewhere besides work--there are only a couple of people I know there who are single.

The academic award winner Ann Lee was a house husband for six years before he entered the film industry in his 36. He's like my role model.

Is that when the overuse injuries start kicking in from those years working on an assembly line putting together cheap electronics for 12 cents an hour?

Kind of. There's a famous saying: Before 30, spend your health for money; after 30, spend your money for health.
If you haven't raised yourself at 30, you are considered a loser.

Ooo I know one! "if you're a republican before 30, you're an asshole. If you're a democrat after 30, you're a dumbass" quote by Hilldebrand Churchfinder

if you don't make 300k/year they don't care about you.

drugs. slow drip drugs. like Adderall XL, synthroid, combo. you will be light and chipper like a 18 yr old.

plus a HARD flat-out max heart rate exertion 3 times a week for 20 seconds per session. yes I just said 1 minute total per week. It hurts but it works. don't be a pussy.

I'll be 27 here soon, and i'm starting to see where you're coming from. I stay into my hobbies and interests, and always try to keep my free time varied (i hate routine and the same-old-same-old). Staying in touch with friends, single and married, that live in different places helps a lot with this, i find.

I think mainly keep something "new" in your life is important...i've met a good number of mid-30's to middle aged folks that complain about being in a rut, but don't take chances to try new things.

But i guess i'm still young, so what the hell do i know

I am 34, and I feel plenty motivated. It sounds like, on top of job issues, you haven't reall found happiness. My only suggestion, other than telling you to possibly seek a therapist (not meant as a knock), is to consider if the life you've been told to seek is what you really want. It may be that moving some place new, some place exciting, and living a more modest existence would be better. Now that you are married, its going to be a lot harder to do that, but you're both really young, and its a great time to try something new and different.

I'm very happy with my life. There is little I would change, and I don't think I've even coming close to peaking, but I also realize now that I've acquired a few things that I have dreamed of having, that there is a helluva lot more to life than that. If I had to do it all over again, I'd likely throw a little more caution to the wind, and explore the world a bit more and worry less about acquiring money.
