I've got most of my furniture, clothing, etc. stored in the garage of my rental house, awaiting my house to be built. Originally, I should have been moving into my new place today; however, the schedule has been pushed back until at least the end of August. Since my items will now suffer through the full summer of heat and humidity, I'm concerned about mold/mildew (everything is fine so far...)

There's multiple reasons I don't care to get a storage unit right now (mainly because it's just for a month or two), so do you think putting a dehumidifier in the garage would work, is is it just too humid?

If so, any suggestions on brand/type/ratings/where to buy/etc.?

We don't open the garage door often (just on weekends to get out the mower).

But if you're set on getting one, it'll definitely work as long as your garage is fairly decently sealed. The place I used to work had one in the storage building out back and it worked like a charm even with people going in and out all day.

nah. storage unit is about $100/month, for 1-2+ months + cost of getting all the crap there + my time

and if I get a unit, my dad will make me take all my shit out of his, which is 2 hours away, so more money and time

I can get a 70 pint dehumidifier with free shipping for ~$200

so at best, it's a wash and means I don't have to move my stuff twice during the summer

the garage seems to be sealed decently. it doesn't get really hot in there, but I can tell it is humid.

heh, I'm in the same boat as you are as far as knowing anything about these things. I just know the one they had worked in a slightly larger than garage sized building

yeah, they work pretty well

you'll have to go and empty it once full, however

depending on how humid it gets outside, that might be annoying

you could do that and get some DampRid as well or something

I ran a shitty window AC (like a $99 one) in my basement all last summer while my house was being renovated and it kept the humidity down. If your garage has a window might try that.
