DAYUM! So much for coming clean. Surely Deb has to remember back to the one crime scene (I think it was season 2 perhaps) where there was a body Masuka said had indentations in his skin like it had been wrapped in plastic. I don't know if I'm more psyched about the first episode of this or breaking bad!

^ I was a little annoyed that you said she finds out without a spoiler tag (even though we all know it's coming eventually). But then I watched the trailer and it's a pretty awesome trailer.

That being said, that trailer seems to have a lot of spoilers in it. So that's a warning to all.

^^ To discuss season 7. What people think will happen, the show as it airs, etc. Not plot spoilers.

FWIW because I don't think you post in entertainment often: I think it's fair to say that most people who post in entertainment regularly do so with the idea that if it hasn't aired yet, don't talk about it too explicitly or simply post a spoiler tag so people know to skip ahead if they don't want see spoilers. It's fairly well established etiquette. It's not a huge deal in this situation imo, but it's not too much trouble to type "spoiler..." either and it's just common courtesy. What's being discussed is one of the most cliff hanger-ish aspects of the entire series. Some people want to see that unfold for themselves.

Some tv shows/movies actually have spoiler specific threads (separate from the regular thread) for people to discuss spoilers -- typically shows/movies that are based on books.

^ Maybe I'm recalling this incorrectly, but I believe that at the end of last season we knew that he had set up shop at the church and that she was on her way there. Maybe even that she found out someone was in there and pulled her gun. But I'm not sure if she realized it was Dexter. We certainly didn't know what she would do. Or if her finding him would actually result in her finding out that he's a serial killer. It was the huge cliffhanger of last season, actually.. it's the biggest cliff hanger of the entire series for most people. And it's typed out 5 or 6 posts up.

No offense, but you can't be bitching about spoilers if you don't even know what happened in the show. Obviously you aren't that big of a Dexter fan seeing as how the end of last season was one of the most epic moments of the whole series and you can't recall it.

OK ok bitching aside, we're over that.

Let's get back to some serious Dexter discussion cause this season is going to be a fun ride. Does Dexter have it in him to kill Deb, and how in the hell does nerdy lab guy play into this all? Is he the "big bad" this season?

before you go complaining about spoilers, you should know what happened at seasons end. Deb knows Dex murdered that guy. With that said, there are a ton of potential spoilers in the showtime preview, but I feel like you should have known that it is coming when you click a video of "2 Minute Sneak Peak".

Also, Deb would be really bad at her job, which she is not, to not figure it out. The good news is hopefully this ends their dumb romantic relationship storyline. A good season was almost completely ruined for me with that dynamic.

^ and ^^ let's take a step back and think about this for a second. my post was in reply to Specter who asked why I would be in a Dexter Season 7 thread if I didn't want to see spoilers. My reply to that ultimately is not show specific. Posting spoilers (upcoming/unseen plot details) without spolier tags is usually frowned upon in any entertainment thread. Whether or not any one person knows what happened last season doesn't change that in the slightest.

Are you saying that me, clearly, not being as huge of dexter fan as you... or simply not recalling exactly when the camera cut away... nullifies the concept that most of entertainment plays by the spoiler tag rule? I don't see how those two things are even related. It's not cool to post spoilers. It doesn't matter what/who I'm a fan of, that's still true.

I think you may have missed what I said was a spoiler. I, of course, expected spoilers in the trailers/sneak peaks. I actually wasn't going to watch it to avoid said spoilers. The spoiler I mentioned wasn't the videos, it was that RattlerRyan posted something that you could only know if you watched the trailer.

Yes, we know that Deb saw Dexter kill the doomsday killer (aka "that guy" for the biggest dexter fans out there -- i'm sorry, that's a little spiteful jab). Deb seeing him kill doomsday does not mean Deb finds out Dexter is a serial killer. Which is effectively what RattlerRyan said when he typed "Deb does indeed figure it all out." That is the spoiler I'm talking about. I had not seen the 2 minute sneak peak nor the trailer at that point. But then I unexpectedly read that she figures it all out.. which clearly was based on the trailer. So I said "screw it, I already know the answer to one of the biggest questions in the series before it's aired... might as well watch this spoiler rich trailer."

And the whole "you know Deb will figure out thing" is silly. What I know, from watching all 6 season thus far, is that this show is freaking ridiculous in regard to how easily Dexter just gets out of these situations. It's not unthinkable at all for someone to think Dexter may find a way out of this without Deb finding out he's a serial killer. And if you watched the first 2 minute sneak, what you see is that Dexter does not come clean. He makes up some bullshit and starts down the path of trying to get out of it. Which leads to "hmm, well is she going to figure it all out or not"... which I know the answer to thanks to RatterRyan watching the spoiler-rich trailer and posting a comment about it.

I'm not mad about it.. but let's call a spade a spade. It was a spoiler and there is a precedent for using spoiler tags.

I agree 100% that it's the network's fault for putting a spoiler in a trailer (show runners and directors don't usually cut trailers). But it is also 100% in the power of those who post to take 2 seconds to type "spoiler..." before posting spoiler stuff. Again, it's extremely well established on tww and other sites that discuss tv shows/movies.

Trailers giving stuff away is not new either. Some people who don't watch the "next week on dexter (and other shows)" trailers because they tend to give away the resolution for the cliffhanger of the episode that just ended.

Look past me being a verbose dick. Is that not just the polite thing to do? I have trouble with this because I'm not wired to not "help" someone when it's entirely in my power and easy for me to do so. And while I may be being extremely verbose about it, I promise you that other people here care about it.

I looked at the post history for a few people who have commented in this line and it doesn't appear you post in entertainment often. But interestingly, you all post in the Breaking Bad thread for the newest season.

That single thread has an example of this etiquette or spoiler references on 5/9 (56%!) of it's pages:

^ just be cool dude.. give everyone else an inclination that you're going to post spoilers. not a big deal if you do. "spoiler" is 7 letters... it's easy to spell and type.
Watch...

SPOILERS
^^ In that case, I am confused about what it is you think we fsaw months ago and whether or not you understand what exactly was spoiled. We saw Deb walk in on Dexter killing someone. That's it. If you see the first 2 minutes of the season, he instantly feeds her bullshit and starts to mislead her. If you watch the trailer, which I expected to have spoilers and watched only after the comment was posted, it's clear that the meat of this season is Dexter trying to continuously prevent Deb from finding out it was not a one-time thing. And then it's made absolutely clear that she does find out. The guy posted that tidbit which you would only get from watching the shitty trailer. again, that is not known based on what has aired. And it seems it won't be known by the end of the first episode. And that cat and mouse game will be the premise of at least part of the season. With a big tah dah when she does figure it out. Which will really ramp up the question of "what will Deb do about it?" that will already exist from her thinking he just killed Travis.

Deb exactly remembered a shit ton of details for the 30 seconds she was in the room with the strapped body

The fact that they cleaned the body up so sloppily was pretty shitty too...missing the glass slide (he should have this down to an exact process) and plastic living on the foot throug the fire?

Also lol at LaGuerta getting her hair clip grease all over the glass slide sample

^^ haha, a surfboard bag. That whole scenario was ridiculous. Setting up a kill in an AIRPORT (where there are security camera all over the place)?!? C'mon, i get that he is supposedly a little "flustered" and may make some mistakes, but that's just ridiculous.

Hopefully they don't resort to the "kill of the week (or 2wks) format of the past and focus on the stuff between him and deb, Laguerta trying to clear Doaks' name, etc.

Kills hundreds of people without getting caught.
Doesn't know how to lock his computer.

I missed the first few seasons. What's the significance of the blood slides he takes? Are they more than just trophies? It's incredibly stupid to keep DNA evidence of every single murder. And he has a getaway bag behind the drywall but can't hide his "I'm a serial killer" toolkit from a simple search?

seriously though, those kinds of questions get more and more abundant with each season. it's like they wanna see just how far they can push the envelope. i've stopped caring about how unbelieveable everything is, stopped rolling my eyes, and just turned my brain off in order to be entertained. kinda like True Blood

It's part of his character, he needs to kill routinely to satisfy his bloodlust or he goes crazy. I did forget about Laguerta and Doaks being the Bay Harbor butcher though, that should be interesting...

Just trophies. Every serial killer has to have a trophy method.

I too thought the computer and credit card account shit was retarded, if it was that easy to cancel a bank account I would've been done with Wachovia months before I was done with them . I think his kill stuff is in a giant footlocker in his closet that is locked, but it's reasonable that Deb can get into it.

all the other points are valid, but this one struck me as not an issue. They have alluded to the guy being a genius, so it's a pretty safe assumption that his laptop was hacked into.

we've seen him lock his computer in previous episodes, but whats his name is supposed to be a big time computer guy so i guess he can get in if he wants to. if you want to get super nerdy about it, he could boot the laptop into target disk mode and just read the disk without needing a password at all.

also, if you find a credit card you can call the number on the back and report it lost and they will cancel it. I dont think he canelled dexters accounts so much as he cancelled the individual cards. it was really just to make the teaser look like a bigger deal than it was.

The opening scene was definitely a la Breaking Bad. The acting/direction seemed just a bit off from previous seasons, and there were a few more questionable moments than there usually were. Nerdy dude is a hacker, so he broke into Dexter's computer no problem. And I didn't have a problem the kill in the airport, it seemed legit to me. When Dexter goes off the rails in previous seasons he definitely does things outside the code. But Deb accessed Dexter's work desktop and saw his wallpaper, Dex ALWAYS keeps that locked when he's not around. Also, Deb sits on the couch and turns on the tv and BAM she's on it giving an interview. The setup behind Mike getting offed and Ukranian dude was pretty flimsy too. I'm pretty sure that Travis left the prosthetic arm on top of the fridge at the end of last season, and the first time he comes home this season it's not there. Things like that kind of annoy me. But small grievances aside, that was a kickass episode with a great ending.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but did Dexter ever discover the prosthesis? Travis brought in the package and opened it up and left it in the kitchen was the last I remember of it, and it re-appeared at the very end when Deb is sitting on Dexter's couch with everything out and the arm is there too. He's gonna have fun explaining that one! And how did Deb find all of Dexter's hidden stuff? The blood slides hidden in the AC, the knives hidden in the trap door of the trunk in his closet?

"It's part of his character, he needs to kill routinely to satisfy his bloodlust or he goes crazy."

Let me elaborate. I have no problem with him killing routinely, and I understand why he does it. But the show has not always been a "kill of the week" format. Referring to the "monster of the week", "homicide of the week", etc. format of other shows. It's meant to be an ongoing story. In some seasons, the show became very episodic (a self-contained kill within each episode). And it just felt like "well, he's got to kill someone every episode." In the better seasons, his kills have been spread out across episodes or have taken multiple episodes to find the person and kill them. There's also a difference when the episodes take place during back to back days in a time-line, and when there is obvious time in between. Him killing someone every episode or two when it's a day or two later is a bit much.

It's also kind of shitty, and just playing to a sub-group of fans to just show him kill rather than have something about that particular kill add to the story or characters. We know he needs to kill, we don't need to see one play out in every episode the same way they always play out. Showing him just dumping the body, just preparing a kill room, or putting a slide away is more than enough to remind the viewer of what they already know (dude's a serial killer). Showing a kill and having the conversation he has with the victim shed light on Dexter's character or thought process, or some other aspect of the story is great. And they've done that very well at times. But I hate when they show a kill just to show a kill.

Killing Victor may have some weight moving forward because of the ongoing investigation and they introduced some characters associated with the guy he killed. So I'm good with that one. But this episode would have been just as good, if not better, without it. Especially considering how stupid he was about it -- airport (with cameras)? C'mon! I get him being that sloppy if he's just so flustered from everything, but that didn't come across if that was the intention.

^ He can't. Harry's Code won't let him. Unless she goes off the deep end and starts killing people.

As far as the "kill of the week" issues go, theres always been a few of those per season. I'm ok with last week's because it clearly showed his compulsion to complete the ritual which he wasn't able to do with Travis. Deb ran herself to death on her treadmill to blow off steam and kind of clear her head...for Dexter he needs to go through the ritual.

What's interesting is that Deb is clearly going to cock block him on his weekly kills, so maybe he will go truly psycho and get outside of the code
