...the discord was whether or not to allow the nominated candidate to control delegate selection and the disenfranchisement of entires state delegations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKaXqoC4DjE) , vs. whether or not God exists and Jerusalem is the capital of Israel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8BwqzzqcDs).

The capital of Israel has nothing to do with the real issues getting fixed over here. Seriously, how many Americans have been to Israel or have personal ties to that country??? Just another issue to appease some lobbyists... Also, what people believe about God is their personal business and doesn't need to be brought up in a political event. 9/5/2012 11:21:23 PM |

I admit that I'm perplexed: the capital of Israel isn't Jerusalem.

They should put Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel in the platform since Tel Aviv is a more important economic center and will lead to more job creation back in the US. 9/6/2012 1:36:34 AM |

Wikipedia says Jerusalem is the capital but isn't internationally recognized as it.
Tel Aviv is much larger and the financial center.

A take on it. I agree it was 100% crap and it was obvious the actual delegate vote didn't matter. It was going ahead regardless. As an atheist and non-Israel fan this definitely pisses me off but more importantly it was an illusion of democracy to be sure.

Agreed, but since this is technically a private political party and not a government entity, they can profess whatever they want. Then like all good politicians, when elected into office, they'll simply ignore their platform/9/6/2012 10:54:00 AM |

seriously?
Can we at least now start to talk about the 2-party system for what it is? A monopoly on political power like the Chinese 1-party system, one that is at least partially enabled by our voting rules, electoral college, a partially parliamentary-minded constitution that's mismatched to our parties today.
I mean, can we at least like bring it up in civilized company after this shit? 9/7/2012 9:19:33 AM |

Anybody who, after watching those videos, still says they have a vote in either party is either kidding themselves or is part of the oligarchy of the Establishment.
Not surprising, FAUX News failed to report the RNC "Ron Paul Moment," but jumped on the DNC Moment. 9/7/2012 9:23:55 AM |

http://batmanwi.com/2012/09/06/dnc-delegate-leaves-party-joins-occupy-after-forced-vote-at-convention/
The Democrats decided to try to reinsert “God” and “Jerusalem” back into their platform with a voice vote during the DNC. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the convention chairman, asked for approval from the delegates, but was met with strong opposition. After asking three separate times, and still not receiving enough approval from the delegates, he still determined that those present had voted in favor.
For Daniel McKenzie, a young delegate from Minneapolis, this was the breaking point. He got up, left the convention, and came to find us protestors, who were in Marshal Park at the time. Once at the park, he did a mic check to tell all of us what had happened, and that he did not approve of it. He then told us that he was leaving the Democratic Party, and instead would be joining the Occupy movement. This was the point where he realized neither party was actually acting as a voice for the people, and that instead he needed to take to the streets with rest of us to voice our opposition to the corrupt system. 9/7/2012 9:24:44 AM |

political parties have the right to be illegitimate. If the party leadership is holding scam votes, then that's that. It's their organization. You don't have to be there.
But these two organizations get privileged access to the ballot. That's the problem.
When these parties have to worry if their candidates will make the ballot I'll be happy. 9/7/2012 1:55:51 PM |

Well, right. The system is controlled in such a way that parties outside of the two-party establishment are not even given an opportunity to participate. In fact, the GOP is actively trying to keep third parties from getting on the ballot:
http://beyondthecurtain.wordpress.com/2012/09/06/gop-suing-to-keep-third-parties-off-ballot-in-november/
They don't like the idea of a third party taking their election.
It's an extremely complex relationship between the government, party leadership, and the media. I won't pretend to know who is really pulling the strings. However, looking at the similarities between the two conventions and how voice vote was ignored in favor of a scripted responses is pretty fucking fishy.

Show you... in that constitution that lays out the rules for how political parties operate?
Oh yeah, that's right, such a thing doesn't exist. Because democracies don't dictate how parties run themselves. Because parties are supposed to be changeable. Unless you're communist. 9/7/2012 2:29:18 PM |

So how do you square the relatively unscripted nature of both Clint Eastwood's and Clinton's speech with your narrative of these conventions being a predetermined sham? If someone is pulling the strings, they are certainly not doing a very good job. 9/7/2012 2:37:02 PM |

I'm not making the claim that the entire event was scripted. I'm making a very specific claim that these voice votes were predetermined and scripted. This is made extremely clear in the OP's videos.

Yeah, that shit was definitely embarrassing. I think democrats just need take the hint. 70% of Americans believe in god, you can't completely shut them out and hope to ever win an election. It's the same reason they dropped all the anti-gun shit. Way too many gun owners out there.

Clint Eastwood was for shits and giggles. It's like an unexpected wrestler entering the ring out of nowhere to "save the day". Clint Eastwood was the only unscripted speech and they said even the top romney advisers didn't know who the speaker was going to be.
Quote : | " Top Romney advisors claim they have been left in the dark about a mystery speaker who may address the convention on Thursday night.
“I do not know. I’m intrigued,” Eric Fehrnstrom, a senior advisor to Romney, told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl and Yahoo! News David Chalian amid laughter at the ABC News/Yahoo! News breakfast in Tampa Monday morning. “I had not heard that that there was going to be a mystery speaker, no.” http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/08/romney-advisors-claim-ignorance-on-mystery-rnc-speaker/" |
