This seems like a really lame topic; however, it's weirding me out.

The HP all-in-one printer at my work started displaying a paper jam message yesterday (I think, after it had ran out of ink, but before I had attempted to load a new cartridge); even though all paper appeared to be removed from inside the paper, it continued to display that message.

So I decided to use my printer from home today, and the exact same thing has happened. Printer was in the midst of printing, ran out of ink, I replaced the ink cartridge, it continued the previous printing project before I had a chance to align the cartridge, then paper jammed.

Now, I've cleared the paper, but it continues to say paper jam when I attempt to align the cartridge. I feel like it has to do with the cartridge alignment, but another problem is that the printer won't shut down unless I disconnect its power source.

I normally wouldn't have posted about it; I'm just perplexed that the exact same thing has happened two days in a row on two different printers.

I think the OP may have been as much a rant as it was a cry for help.

Apparently, something has triggered the paper sensor flag.

But forealdo - Is it just plain dirty/dusty inside the printer? I've seen printers with really lightweight sensors. That allows them to detect the paper without obstructing the feed and could just be getting stuck.

For sure. Way more reliable, consumable costs are way lower. Last I checked you can get color (assuming you need color) lasers for well under $200. If you're printing photos I'm not sure if laser is appropriate, but for everything I print it looks great.

If you can afford it, I'm a firm believer in maintaining a black & white laser for high volume printing, and a good color all-in-one for photos and scanning. The consumable costs can't be beat for a B&W laser and to get a color laser that does photo quality you're going to have to drop some serious coin.
