Had to rebuild my laptop bc the old HD crashed and can't find my code.
It's already installed so I just need a key not the disk.

Thanks!

Depending on the manufacturer, the factory OS install CD won't require you to put in a key if it detects your computer is the same brand (ie. Dell CD -> Dell Laptop). Also, Windows 7 Enterprise on a personal laptop?

It's a personal laptop. and I don't have the sticker

Also, I should clarify that I didn't rebuild on the same HD... I had to replace the HD so the keyfinder app won't work.

Bullshit. Every PC laptop comes with a Windows license and key GLUED to the bottom of it.

And you don't just "have a disk" for Windows 7 Enterprise on a personal laptop. Unless you stole it from your office or you bootlegged it from a torrent site.

^^ by "computers" you mean laptops? How'd you manage that? If you're talking about a custom built desktop, then GTFO.

Lenovo desktop and Lenovo laptop. Both purchased from Lenovo, one last year and one maybe 3 years before that. I have no idea how i "managed" it, but there are definitely no stickers. Out of curiosity I checked the old Gateway I had in the closet, no sticker but its old enough it could have had one at some point.

How did you get it installed? Didn't you or whoever install it use a valid key? If so use that keyfinder app I mentioned.

I'm assuming it's not a legit installation, and if so you will not just be able to "find" a key without paying Microsoft some money. You will probably have to reinstall with a valid copy/license of Windows.

What key? Enterprise is only available through volume licensing and activates through MS every 180 days. If your looking to score an Enterprise license, which is exactly what it sounds like because you seem to think it works like XP does where a company can buy a volume license with a multi-use key. There is no key to give out. If you want enterprise features, get Windows 7 Ultimate, it has pretty much all the same features.

So in essence, get the fuck out of here and stop trying to bum shit off of other people.

FWIW the COA sticker is probably under the battery on the thinkpads.

I didn't install it. when the laptop died my friend took it to work and installed win 7. I didn't ask for it. I have Win XP and a Key with the sticker on the bottom. I thought it was going to be XP again but when it wasn't I figured it worked the same and could key it in. I now know it's different. I'm not trying to 'bum' off anyone or get 'free shit'... just trying to get up and running and figure out how to do it. I really don't give a rat's ass about having win 7 over XP and don't know what 'features' make it any better than XP.

I have no problems re imaging the disk myself back to XP as it is now clear that is what I need to do.

oh how has the narrative changed again... likely story.

If you have the ability to "re image" the disk to XP after a simple HD failure, then why the fuck did you give it to a friend to install win 7 that you didn't want in the first place? Shit, if its an old XP laptop, might as well go hassle free with a Linux OS that would probably work better on older hardware unless you need a windows environment.

well there are numerous security features that make Win7 better than XP

but did you srsly believe that an XP key would work to activate Win7

I didn't initially even look at the version, like I said, I thought it was going to be XP. And I let the friend do it because it crapped out suddenly and I had to work and they offered.

Then I got frustrated because I had already reloaded all my applications and transeferred files when it came up with the activation window.

At any rate, I'm going to do it over myself.
I haven't really used Linux so I'm not sure I'd want to do that.

Thanks for all the info

You could just go ahead and spend 20-30 bucks on a legit windows 8 upgrade. You should really consider retiring XP, if only for security peace of mind.

Why not just install it off of USB? Certainly everyone has a USB thumb drive.
