wasn't sure what to think when I heard they were finally doing a long rumored remake, but after seeing the trailer, I think I'm sold

Wow. Definitely takes a different tone than the original. Wonder if there will be a cameo by Bruce.

^not exactly, takes a different tone than evil dead 2, but the original evil dead didn't have all the slapstick humor of that one

[Edited on October 24, 2012 at 10:40 PM. Reason : and no to the cameo]

There's no doubt in my mind that I'll enjoy it--even as a total filmic abortion or, with a minute probability, a legitimately good movie. I love shitty horror movies about as much as I love good ones, so in this case I'm feelin' kinda lucky.

Bonus: Lou Pucci. I forgot he was alive.

At first I was like "fuck this shit, who needs more goddamn remakes", then I saw the trailer and now I can't wait to see this.

How could there not be? I mean, they could not do it but they'd be passing up something people want.

I think The Chin has stated that he's not appearing in the movie, but he's worked closely with Raimi during the filming and production. I wouldn't be surprised if there were several nods to the original(s) even if he doesn't turn up.

Much more the intended tone of the 1st Evil Dead The problem with the original is that it was shot with such a tight budget much of it looked pretty terrible (even by the day's standards) so it was more of a "so bad it's awesome" kind of deal.

there's no ash character in this one. but it does look like one of the female characters gets her arm possessed. i'm not sure if she's the main character or not.

I'm interested.

On a side-note, did anyone see Bruce as Elvis in Bubba Ho-Tep?

So of the four movies in the Evil Dead franchise, three of them are pretty much the same exact story.

^^It was a while ago, but from what I remember, it was ok. Not great, a little boring, but worth watching if you're a fan of Bruce.

new trailer (at least new to me and this thread): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvDLWlxxcak

Warning: I know it goes without saying that a trailer has spoilers. But this trailer is about 2.5 minutes long and seems to cover a some scenes that some may want to "save" for when they actually see the movie.

That trailer says it hasn't been rated yet. I mean, what are they waiting on? No way it's pg-13. Has to be R, couldn't be anything else.

Maybe they simply have to say "not yet rated" if it hasn't actually been rated yet. And there are ratings "higher" than R.

from the original:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Evil_Dead#Commercial_release

Quote :
"When the film was being filmed by Raimi, he made the film as gruesome as possible with no interest or fear in censorship. This led to the film receiving the X rating and being cited as a video nasty.[49] Films labeled as a "video nasty" were often highly violent and disturbing films that were widely controversial, a title often held by pornographic films and other X-rated films."

i doubt they're going for an NC-17 rating, but it also wouldn't surprise me.

Yeh, shit was pretty crazy. One of the goriest movies I've ever seen. My wife is a huge Evil Dead/ Bruce Campbell fan, and she loved it for what it's worth.

My stomach has never felt queasy in a theater but this movie did it a few times. They did a really good job handling the franchise.

It is what it is. It's a remake. I loathe stop motion gore and am glad they updated that part but no one will care about this movie in a month.

Saw it, liked it. Not amazing, but watchable. Definitely not "scary".

The best part, to me, was the cinematography - some of the camera work was fantastic.

The gore factor was pretty high, but not in a shocking way. I have mixed feelings on updating older films for the modern age, but in general I support it (especially horror flicks).

If I had to put a number on it: 6/10
