Surprised there isn't a thread about this yet.

Peter Molyneux has released an "experiment" from his new company 22cans.

Wiki about the project: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiosity_%E2%80%93_What's_Inside_the_Cube%3F

Blog keeping up with progress every day: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/376949/blog/curiosity-uncovered-we-discover-whats-in-the-cube/

A quick summary is that there is a giant cube that needs to be stripped away layer by layer. You can only begin working on the next layer once the current layer has been removed. You remove a layer just by tapping on cubes on your device. This is a multiplayer game in that there is only one cube. Everyone that is playing is removing cubes from the same cube.

In typical Moly fashion, he claims that there is a "life changing secret" in the center cube. Only one person will have access to it once they reach the center. There is paperwork that has to be signed for the person that gets the information cannot sell it.

So far they have removed about 30 layers, and apparently that's only 2.5% of the total cube.

so once everything is stripped away, it's just the one lucky clicker out of thousands that gets to see what's inside?

yes, the one person who unlocks the contents of the final cube gets sent a video link of the contents

they can do whatever they want with it (ie post the link on facebook, twitter, youtube, etc)...except sell it for money

Added updates to this app. New features to check out. Best of all, you can now see the cube breakdown in real time.

I read a theory that the last 100 layers will go in 1 second based on the avg number of taps per second currently taking place.

"As of 13 December 2012, the game has been running for 38 days. In those days 97 layers have been chopped off the cube. With the above calculations that translates in to a completion of 13.55 %. Assuming a constant speed of chopping cubelets this brings us to an estimated total of 280 days of playing time and the estimated date to reach the centre is 13 August 2013.

This is the kid who won, apparently he will be the overall "god" of the next game they release.

he's the physical embodiment of the internet

"This morning, an 18-year-old named Bryan Henderson from Edinburgh, Scotland, destroyed the last cube.

“People are going to hate me for this,” Henderson told Wired in a phone interview, “but I only registered for the game earlier this morning, about an hour before I won the thing.”"

Quote :
"According to the video that Henderson saw and 22cans posted on YouTube the day that the experiment ended, the contents inside of the cube included the ability to be the sole, all-powerful, digital god within 22cans' upcoming release of Godus and to reap a small portion of all of the incoming revenue that is brought in by the game."

Glad i stopped playing as well.

Although, getting a small portion of the revenue might be nice...depending on the portion size.

^Regardless of the portion, it is basically free money just from playing a game that cost nothing to download. I wouldn't argue with that at all. Especially since the guy that won jumped in at the last second and had very little time invested.
