What a joke. I'm not disappointed that Bonds, Clemens, and the rest of the PED folks didn't get in, but how do you not vote in Biggio? 3000 hits, played at a high level his whole career, was a gold glove caliber fielder at 2 positions.

Furthermore, they're going to have to figure out what to do with the steroid era guys. You can't just pretend that 1980-2005 just didn't happen. If steroids were as prevalent as most believe then pretty much everybody was on something and quite a few of these guys are clearly amongst the best of all time.

I'm upset that Dale Murphy is off the ballot now, he'll have to get in on a veterans committee vote.

What about Clemens, A-Rod, Manny Ramirez? If those guys aren't hall of famers do you then start elevating guys who weren't the best of their generation?

It's stupid. I'm not a fan of Clemens or Bonds, but they deserve to be in the HOF.

I like the idea I heard one of the voters said that they wouldn't vote any steroid user first ballot but would put them in later. Seems about as reasonable considering the complete taint that is the 90's. In a perfect world it would be just a few and you'd keep them out but it was so widespread good players still rose to the top of the cheater pile.

Baseball writers are fucking dumb. A couple of these fuckers won't vote for Greg Maddox on the first ballot because, "Babe Ruth didn't get in with 100% of the vote."

looking at the results, how is Jack Morris not in the Hall of Fame? I just remember him being a killer pitcher on those Blue Jays World Series winners

Don't forget the greatest post season performance of all time against the Braves. I also think Jack Morris deserves to be in.

If don sutton got in then jack Morris should get in. Biggio will likely get in next year. If Murphy ever gets elected, I am taking vacation time to be at his induction. I'd like to be there too when Glavine, maddux, smoltz, or chipper gets inducted

Jack Morris didn't deserve to get in, lots of pitchers throw 10-inning shutout wins in World Series victories

none of the steroid guys deserve to get in. i don't care if half the guys in the era were juicing, this is the hall of fame.

the hall of fame isn't a right, it's an honor. if you cheated and got away with it, good for you, but we aren't going to enshrine you forever because a bunch of other guys did it, too. as long as there were clean players like dale murphy and ken griffey, jr., then none of the juicers get in.

alan trammell was better than more than a third of the SS in the hall right now, yet he struggles to even get 40%

^^^So you are saying Ty Cobb played with integrity, honor, and didn't purposefully try to injure other players?

I'd have a lot less of a problem with it if the writers weren't going back and retroactively judging these guys based on rules that were put in place after the majority of their accomplishments.

MLB knew that a lot of these guys were doing things that weren't necessarily above board, but they needed marketable faces and story lines after the strike. Eventually that led to them going all in and pushing the McGwire/Sosa home run race and it led to record attendance less than a decade after a strike wiped out the world series. Once they were healthy again from a fan standpoint, MLB did a 180 and attacked the very same people they had deified only a few seasons before.

It is basically like you going to work and doing something that isn't 100% ethical. Management knows about it, but see that it gets great results, so they turn a blind eye and encourage the behavior. Then when the results are basically maxed out, they fire you, crack down on the behavior that made them a fortune, and try to blackball you from your industry while accepting none of them blame themselves.

next year should have 3 first ballot hall of famers. greg maddux, frank thomas and tom glavine.

honestly it doesn't bother me that blatant/proven cheaters are denied entry to the hall of fame. pete rose and shoeless joe jackson deserve to be in there before bonds and clemens.

[Edited on January 10, 2013 at 2:07 PM. Reason : also shut up about fucking dale murphy.]

meh, not being a braves fan i can totally see why dale murphy isn't in the hall of fame.

[Edited on January 10, 2013 at 2:48 PM. Reason : .265 career average kills him]

[Edited on January 10, 2013 at 2:51 PM. Reason : biggio and piazza should have gotten in tho]

^ .265 BA while playing mostly during the 80s is not that bad. Longevity is what hurts Murphy the most. Dude was the best player in baseball for a 2 year stretch which is sometimes a criteria that HOF voters look for.

30-30 guy, huge arm, nearly 400 HRs, and a super human being which seems to be important these days. Hopefully the veteran's committee will elect him. His stats are not that far off from Jim Rice. Rice was a moderately better hitter, but Murph was a superior defensive player and was a 5 tool player when he was younger.

What's been interesting to me for a couple years is how many fewer votes Palmeiro gets than the other roiders. Why is he hated so much more? Because he pointed his finger and lied instead of just evading the question? Is it really that much worse?

Am I missing something with Biggio? He just wasn't "HOF" material to me, but then again I've always thought it's too easy to get in.

Career .281 hitter with average pop (290 homers) & 4 gold gloves.

Larry Walker has never been associated with steriods (that I know of) and he shits on Biggio numbers wise. He didn't get in again for the third year in a row.

Biggio's case is largely built on three things: 3000 hits, played whole career with Astros, was very good player at 3 positions (C, 2B, CF).

Walker does deserve to get in too in my opinion. Guy was a 5 tool player early in his career and had some just obscene years while in Colorado. He gets hurt in the voters eyes because he did play his best years in Colorado unfortunately. It sucks what this PED shit is doing to baseball history.

who shouldn't have been elected to the hall of fame, imo.

you can't compare larry walker and craig biggio. biggio was an all star as both a catcher and a 2nd basemen, as well as being one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball. walker was a five-tool outfielder who had great years, but lost a lot of time due to injury. he also benefited from playing at coors field in the pre-humidor days. that is probably hurting him with some voters.

i think both will make the hall of fame, though it will probably take walker 4-5 years.
