I wonder how big an opening weekend this will have. I've yet to talk to anyone who has heard about this movie or seen a trailer who isn't going opening weekend and splurging for IMAX.

Looks fucking amazing.

I'd like to splurge for opening night IMAX tickets but I don't know. I'm not a fan of the waiting hours in line at IMAX to get a good seat. And god forbid you get a bad seat...

bump.

who else is going to see this on friday? I'm thinking this will be the first time in a while i splurge on IMAX 3d. Without any big names on the bill and a 180 million dollar budget, i expect the effects to be on a whole.notha.level.

Yo, everyone remember to go watch this, opening this weekend!

Not that reviews matter much for a movie like this, but it's actually tracking pretty well in RT, better than all the Transformers movies at least.

i enjoyed it. little campy or something? but hard not to be with giant robots.

i thought the CG looked great. closest thing i'll ever get to a mechwarrior movie probably, haha.

Simply awesome. Definitely campy at times but that was the point. This was a movie about giant robots punching giant monsters in the face in order to save all of humanity, and it totally delivered. The acting was even pretty good, with the exception of Hunnam. You can make a lot of comparisons to other movies or genres but it wasn't a straight copy of anything, more like a blend of many prior concepts. What set it apart was the execution, Michael Bay couldn't make a movie like this in his wildest disaster porn wet dream.

Just got back from seeing this at Marbles IMAX. Great movie if you want to see monsters and aliens slugging it out.

This very clearly fell into the "rebellious/non-authority respecting, hot shot saves the day" genre. And it has every troupe from that genre. This movie was cliche as can be and extremely predictable.

That said, it was pretty entertaining. The robots and monsters look great. Which should be expected of Guillermo del Toro by this point. But it's like Avatar in that it's a well done mad-libs of a story that's been told plenty of times. Just turn off your brain and enjoy the pretty pictures. It's great for that.

I have heard nothing about the movie about how fantastically epic it was. Potentially plotless, but inexplicably awesome.
