A
Scorsese, Taxi Driver
"See that window, see that window you see it? you see it? Yeah you see it. I'm gonna kill that nigger with my wife. Aren't I edgy? Aren't I? I couldn't find a single actor on the face of the planet that could deliver these great lines I wrote for myself as well as I could. You see, cabbie? You see? Yeah you see."

or

B
Tarantino, Pulp Fiction
"Is there a sign on the front of my house that says dead nigger storage? Aren't I edgy twenty years later?"
Or really any of his films in which he ruins an otherwise good movie by putting his freakish face in frame.

or

C
Woody Allen...enough said.

Mel Brooks is not eligible for this competition because he's actually funny. And even when he's not, he's Mel Brooks.

Not a terrible cameo, but relevant to the thread

Peter Jackson writing himself a cheesy death scene in return of the king.

At least Hitchcock usually tried to hide his fat rolls in the background.

Kubrick was the cheesy voice on the radio with a bad New York accent in Full Metal Jacket, but again, he hid his fat off screen.

I'm not sure that playing the lead role in a vast majority of your films is the definition of a cameo.

I know you must think I'm,

you know--

You must think I'm pretty sick or something.

Right?

You must think I'm pretty sick?

Right?

I bet you really think I'm sick, right?

Hmm?

You think I'm sick?

You think I'm sick?

You don't have to answer that. I'm paying for the ride.

Of course they're the best parts, the directors choose them for themselves. (or at least they would be the best parts, if played by a competent actor).

Michael Palin was moaning in an interview I saw the other day about how he wrote this great part for himself in one of those terrible 80's movies he did after python and then had to give it to John Cleese to appease him.

^^ Was that the one where he's telling that awful joke in a Mexican bar? The best I can say of that is he needed the most annoying gringo on the planet for that gag, and in that one scenario he was the perfect actor.

Scorsese has a role in Round Midnight where he similarly parodies himself in someone else's movie as the stereotypical annoying New Yorker, so I like to think that at least he was aware of how much he sucked in Taxi Driver.

Director cameos are a self-indulgent narcissistic move that always takes me out of the movie. Tarantino is the worst offender because he can't act worth a shit and is ugly as a mofo.

martin scorsese and quentin tarantino don't owe you shit.

if films of that caliber come at the price of a small goofy director cameo the so be it.

I cringe throughout the entire "dead nigger storage" set. It stops being a movie. Even if he were an ugly, bad actor, it wouldn't be as bad if he weren't totally unsuited for that character.

^^^ He plays an annoying documentary director shouting at the soldiers "don't look at the camera!" and just generally getting in the way. Yeah I like that one, and Kevin Smith's Silent Bob character, since he was smart enough to not give himself any lines.

kevin smith's non-lines are more annoying than any of the lines mentioned in this thread.

Tarantino's cameo in Django as an Australian miner or whatever totally took me out of the movie for a bit. Movie was badass overall though.

I'm not sure the "black sheep" premise of the movie works. Weren't most early western pioneers just yankees that were so annoying that they were kicked out of the east coast?

Robehe's Rodriguez was also in Desperado. One of Baneras' buddies with the guitar case guns.

But he's mexican so it doesn't count right?

And Jay and Silent Bob are awesome.

I, too, thought this was one of the most enjoyable parts of the movie.

Please don't be an idiot. He did specify: director cameo. That is specifically when the director of a movie makes a small appearance in the movie he's directing. Tarantino didn't direct Desperado, so that's a cameo, not a director cameo. Words have meaning. It's not a "director cameo" just because it's a cameo by a guy who directed another movie. Jesus Christ.

"King himself described the film as a "moron movie" and stated his intention to never direct again soon after. In a 2002 interview with Tony Magistrale for the book Hollywood's Stephen King, King stated that he was "coked out of [his] mind all through its production, and [he] really didn't know what [he] was doing.""
