I backed the pebble and it is supposed to ship this week.
Has anyone received theirs yet? What is your experience thus far? I am pretty excited about it. 2/11/2013 8:16:21 PM |

Guy at work was wearing his yesterday. Was not wearing it today . Apparently it died on him twice already. He said its hard to tell if its even charging b/c the charger cable magnets are weak and there isn't a charge indicator. 2/12/2013 6:36:21 PM |

I guess i am in the same boat. I got the email asking me to do a final confirmation on address but not actually saying it is shipping.
I tweeted at pebble asking about the battery indicator and they said, "there are three indicators: full battery and charging (when plugged in), and low battery."
So it sounds to me like it is supposed to indicate when charging. 2/13/2013 1:07:40 PM |

I'm not gonna lie, I'm actually getting really annoyed at how poorly they've handled the manufacturing and shipping process thus far. I really hate that they announced January 23rd as the date that they would start shipping out to backers, and here it is almost a month later and they haven't even shipped 5% of the total orders. Meanwhile basic functionality, such as caller id, and the ability to tell when the battery needs to be recharged hasn't been implemented or isn't working. There's no publicly available SDK to play around with, and no real way of telling how far along in the shipping process your watch is, or where in line you stand if you didn't order a single black watch. This is turning into quite a clusterfuck. With all the delays this far, all they had to do was wait another month, iron out all the issues with the firmware, finish up the SDK, and release it at least in an open beta form, churn out at least 50k units, and ship them in bulk to the US and then actually have a proper launch. /rant 2/13/2013 6:27:50 PM |

Got mine today. Fairly underwhelming. Can't wait for the SDK to be released and there to actually be something to do with it besides pause my pandora tracks and change between 5 watch faces. 2/16/2013 5:20:46 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
After using mine for a few hours, I'm going to change my opinion from underwhelming to downright disappointing. It stops receiving alerts every time I respring my phone (which I do several times a day) it doesn't respect the Do Not Disturb feature of the iPhone, so every single email/text/facebook notification etc makes it vibrate, even if I've told my phone not to alert me, and there really isn't shit to do with it so far. I still have very high hopes of what this thing could be and most likely will be once the SDK is released, and all the bugs get ironed out, but right now I'm seriously considering putting mine up on eBay and making a quick $100 profit, and buying another one to play with in a few months when everything doesn't suck so much. 2/17/2013 12:33:39 AM |

The bluetooth standard for this is pretty murky, I'm not surprised some people don't have it working.
My car's headunit for example rarely worked properly with my Android 2.1 phone, but worked intermittently with 2.2. Works fine with the iPhone now.
I would bet the data-display related problems are to be blamed on the bluetooth standard.2/18/2013 4:43:13 PM |

^^Yeah, I'm jailbroken, but there are tons of people that aren't that are reporting dropped connections 4-5 times a day. I'm seeing it too, even when I don't respring, it will sometimes just randomly ask me if it's ok to re-pair, which opens up the pebble app, even if you were in the middle of something else. 2/18/2013 7:57:45 PM |

El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah. Emails, texts and calls show up. There's also a jailbreak tweak that makes all notifications show up, so you get facebook alerts and google voice stuff or anything else that shows up on your lock screen.
Today I had someone call me and their name showed up on my pebble. Then they called back 10 minutes later and just their number showed up, but no name. It's really weird how randomly it works.] 2/19/2013 8:11:31 PM |

el nacho, is there a way to load more of these watch faces up on the phone and then sync which ones i want to the pebble?
it's a pain in the ass that I can only download to the pebble's memory constraints

a lot of people are suggesting using Dropbox and saving the pdw files there, and then they sync locally to your phone.
Personally I just send all the files to myself using Gmail. You can do a search for Pebble or pdw or whatever, see all the files you've sent, and then load them straight into the Pebble app. Of course that does require an internet connection, but I don't foresee that ever being an issue.
BTW, it's not memory contraints that are the limiting factor. The Pebble developers have just decided that they are going to limit you to 8 watchfaces even though there is enough memory to support way more than that. They said they might up that limit in the future, but have no current plans to do so. Sounds like a dick move to me, but whatever. ] 5/4/2013 2:43:37 PM |
