I can't get a straight answer out of anyone - thought TWW would know.

I want to flush mount my 55" TV to the wall. Problem is there isn't a logical place for everything else. How can I put my TV on the wall, and have everything else (cable box, bluray player, xbox, receiver) in a closet down the hall? I could understand the xbox controller not working.

I don't have a crawl space (concrete slab), can anyone tell me how an IR emitter would work in this case?

My brother did a setup similar. TV hanging, stuff behind solid doors.

He bought a really fancy IR transmitter hub to radio signal converting control box.

The whole setup was around $500, but he only has one controller for everything.

how far is the closet? You could run cables through your attic space, but I think you are limited to 45'-50' for HDMI

^The closet is 8 feet away, both on 1st floor. 9 ft ceilings, so attic will be tough to fish it through the walls up, over, and down - but maybe...

if you have solid networking, you could put everything in a closet (minus console) and use a slingbox in the closet and a googletv connected to the tv. I do this in my condo because I own my directv setup and get on contract for a second box works well but your tv will only be 720p

I think everything so far is the least of his problems... How are you getting video to your TV if you won't fish cable through your attic, and you don't have a crawl space?

take a picture of the wall where you want to hang the tv, from far enough angle that we can see the floor, ceiling, and any nearby doors/halls

I bought two of them for a rackmount setup at work, but I didn't catch the DirecTV installer in time and he ran the receivers at each of my TV's at one of the locations rendering my 300 switch superfluous.

In this case you would run at least dual cat6 (I'd day a quad run for if you wanted to run USB over cat6 or VGA, or any number of other devices). There's all kinds of options for you here and I'm about to do something similiar with my 47" tomorrow afternoon if I find the motivation. Too drunk now to give more details.

I think the easiest way would be to do the IR emitter route, fish the IR cable and a single HDMI however the pros can imagine. Then get a receiver that has HDMI pass through.

Regarding the xbox360, has anyone ever had luck extending the range of controllers on that somehow?

Nah, don't use an IR cable, get a Harmony 900 and do RF -> IR. I have this sort of setup in my house. TV in the living room and bedroom, gear in a closet. It's not that difficult to do, just takes a couple bucks and a bit of work.

after thinking about it, i guess you could do something like these two options:

RF remote, fish cat6 to send HDMI to tv...

or

RF remote, and wait for miracast devices to come out. dongle on the TV, transmitters on your devices. (i think miracast should handle that throughput... idk for sure)

^^If I were to use the Harmony 900 - and the TV is in the living room, does that mean I need to route a RF dome so that it can see the TV. Or does can the remote connect directly to the TV with IR, and the rest of the items by RF?

Not possible. The 360 controllers use a proprietary 2.4ghz signal.

But if the closet is only 9-10ft away, the controller will probably just work as-is

I have a wireless HDMI setup that works most of the time, I've had I for over a year and there may be better ones on the market right now. You could use that to transmit signal to your TV.
