I love the EV mode of the Prius, especially when moving around in shopping centers however the system will deactivate if you exceed 10 MPH.

Many times I will drive around downtown and not want to go through the ICE start-up process but driving through downtown at 10 MPH is obviously not realistic.

Is there a method to modify the setting for the maximum speed of the EV mode to be 44 MPH?

I'm not talking about standard hybrid / Eco Mode, but the actual EV Mode selection on the console. The reason I don't want to prevent the ICE from engaging completely is because I want the ICE to engage if I have excessive acceleration (safety concern).

Many individuals have modified their Prius so that the ICE will not start under ANY circumstances. The only way to engage the ICE is to cycle the car.

The electric motor (traction motor) generates 36 HP which is obviously not enough power to accelerate quickly, for everyday driving (especially between the plethora of red lights downtown) this is fine. However, should there be a situation where I need to accelerate quickly I want the ICE to engage.

Currently the EV operates as follows:
1) ICE does not perform the warm-up cycle
2) EV mode is disabled if there is not sufficient charge in the battery
3) EV mode will disable if your speed exceeds 10 MPH
4) EV mode will disable if excessive acceleration is detected

I want to change the operation so that the maximum speed permitted is 44 MPH, which is still 2 MPH below the maximum speed for electric motor only operation.

I've been searching the Prius forums, many of them, unfortunately they don't like to tinker like NCSU engineers do, they just buy out of the box kits!
