So Jodi Arias was indicted in to July 2008 and the murder trial just now started in January of 2013. Is this not a violation of her 6th amendment right for a speedy trial?

What has she been doing sitting in a jail over the last 3.5 years?

Maybe their lawyers asked for a sting of continuances in order to prepare a defense they were happy with.

no, that right has been forgotten. you also can't get public defenders a lot of times, its really a major problem with our justice system that has been ignored. You may have watched Gideon's Trumpet in school about the 1964 Gideon v. Wainwright, but Gideon's trumpet has been forgotten and ignored. there is no right anymore to a public defender, speedy trial, or many other due process rights.

Anyone who tries to spin this as government overreach is being intellectually dishonest. She has no case and her defense attorneys are the ones that drew out the process to try to build one. A speedy trial would have been the death penalty for sure.

In a death penalty case the defense gets a ton of leeway to minimize the chance for appeals later.
