Do you have one?

What does it cost?

What is the deductible per call?

Is it worth it?

How has your experience been? I'm curious if they ever replace something rather than repair it. I'm assuming there are all sorts of limitations...if the HVAC went out, is there a maximum reimbursement level or do they replace it?

If you have stainless steel appliances, do they give you money for a basic (shitty) appliance to replace it with a similar model?

We got one when we bought our house (paid for by the seller) and then we renewed it for a few years after that. I think it was like 350-400 per year with a 70 repaid deductible. It ended up being worth it for us just because we weren't financially in a place where we could afford a big fix like an A/C going out and we lived in an older house where big repairs were likely.

As it turned out, we had a clogged main drain line, a gas leak and several different parts of our A/C (compressor, coils, a heat limiter switch, the thermostat) go out over the few years and we ended up saving several thousand dollars out of pocket even factoring in the cost of the warranty. I don't know how they would replace appliances (I don't think our policy covered that anyways), but for the HVAC stuff, they always repaired it rather than replace the whole unit. I never felt like they were being cheap about it, though. They hire regular heating and A/C guys to do the repairs so they have their own standards as well. The stuff we had replaced is still running strong 5 years later

Now we have our savings built up so we haven't renewed it for the last 5 years or so. I'd probably recommend it again if you are in an old house and can't or don't want to pay for big repairs out of pocket. Just keep in mind that most policies don't cover the roof which is one of the biggest repair costs on the house.

On average, not worth it (See "how insurance companies work")

If youre buying a house, demand the seller buy it for you. Otherwise, keep a rainy day fund and to heck with a warranty.

And yes, theyre notorious for patching and patching more without replacing for you if something breaks. Plenty of lawsuits because of it.

make sure you get the add on for out of code/ improper installation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

every fucking contractor I had out tried to bitch about it was out of code or improperly installed until they saw I had that add on.

we made money because both AC needed work (compressor failed), broke a ceramic cook top, couple other items that were covered.
