going to the university-wide graduation seems pointless, unless you're interested in hearing the guest speaker.

^^ I agree

You work 4+ years for something, why not go and enjoy people celebrating your accomplishment. People that don't come miss out on some good memories.

I guess with me it was more like graduating undergrad wasnt that big of a deal, basically expected, whereas grad was more of an accomplishment (even though it was a lot easier) or at least somewhat unique

CSC has the best undergrad department graduation, Adams tells a little story about each graduate, and the main graduation is just 2 hours of family and friends clapping.

Departmental one for undergrad and grad school. For undergrad I think it was at Talley Student Center, and for the MPA it was at Raleigh City Hall. Didn't go to the big one though, too much hassle and too impersonal.

I didn't. I have left the town when the ceremony was on. I saved a lot of money buying the robe and cap.

I almost didn't get to walk at my HS graduation, because this dude slapped me (class-clown, always wanted attention), and I knocked the shit out of him.

I then wasn't going to walk at my NCSU graduation because at the time, it was undecided if I would actually graduate, because [despite turning all of my records in to MAE months prior to be audited] the university lost the record of me placing out of freshman English and was trying to make me stick around for a summer session to retake it. The decision wouldn't be made until after graduation.

I didn't want to walk, only to be handed an empty folder with no diploma in it and then only maybe graduate. I was fed the fuck up with NCSU by that point, anyway. However, the dean of the English department, as I recall, ended up reviewing a 30-page or so paper I wrote for a master's level history class that I took for fun and decreed that I was indeed well beyond the standard for passing freshman English (this was before graduation). At the request of family (neither of my parents and none of my grandparents went to college; I think it was meaningful to them to see me graduate), and with assurance that I would actually be graduating, I went ahead and walked, although I didn't receive my diploma that day--just an empty folder.

[Edited on May 12, 2013 at 12:53 AM. Reason : it got mailed to me]

I went to the Math Department graduation

I had on a suit, and everyone else had on a cap and gown. But I stupidly sat down with all the cap-and-gown people. So when the picture was taken, my big tall goofy ass was in the back row, on the left, amongst all the caps and gowns. And when I saw the pictures, it was glaringly clear that some doofus in the back row (me) had ruined them by insinuating himself into the picture while wearing only a suit

then, when Jeff Scroggs was calling everybody forward to receive their diploma, he called everyone else "Miss X, Mr. Y," but he just called me "Jeffrey Beau Sellers ...", without calling me Mr. anything.

Jeff Scroggs was a good guy, though.

my high school graduation was obviously scheduled at my high school, at the football stadium, but it started pouring down rain like a motherfucker...motherfuckers and bitches ended up getting dye from the cheaply made gowns soaking into their suits and dresses from the rain...cheaply made bullshit...so my graduation got moved to the Charlotte Coliseum (RIP)...ballin son...23,000 seat arena in that motherfucker, naw mean? I walked across the stage in my suit and tie, with my baller cap and gown, and some motherfuckin wheat nubuck Timbos underneath, ya dig? Stylin on that motherfucker, shakin the hand of the assistant principal who caught me burnin them herbs a couple months prior, ya dig? Still strutted on that motherfucker

But for State, yes, I attended my graduation

I don't know anyone who's gone to the big one of their own accord/without their parents insisting on doing so.

Departmental because my parents made me. I don't think graduating college is some miraculous accomplishment. Most of the people I knew in college were retarded and had backwards ass life goals. I mean I guess its worth celebrating not knocking up a bitch or robbing a liquor store or something. \

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

My cousin graduated in '96, and we went to the big ceremony at C-F because Mister Rogers was the commencement speaker.

As for my own, you might say I'm antisocial, but mostly I've just never really cared for ceremonies, be they graduations, weddings, or whatever.

I didn't go to my high school graduation because I didn't care and no one in my family was impressed. I went to my departmental one because my parents thought it would make my grandparents happy, and that was enough for me. We skipped the big one because said grandparents were the only ones who cared, and they're all in their 90s, so both would've been a lot to put them through in one day.

BTW I would have included more than just my career plans if I'd known it was an option. Honestly my biggest regret in life up until this this point is the fact that I didn't have Dr. Adams advertise the pit bull puppy I have up for adoption.

I never saw the point in going to my graduation, but I went to my ceremony for getting my professional engineering license. I felt like getting my license was a bigger deal than graduating from college, and it allowed me to get my wall certificate a month earlier than I could get it by mail.
