So for everyone sick of WoW but wants to play a MMO, I'd recommend getting into RIFT.
It has a similar feel to as WoW as opposed to Neverwinter/Tera, but the gameplay has MUCH more to it... There's single-player instances, 2/5 player, raids, PvP, rifts, world events to join in, etc.

Anyways, it's going free to play on June 12th, but if you start a new account now, you can actually get the whole game for free right now. Here's now:

The Raptr thing is legit. You install their client thing and run Rift long enough to get "Experience" status, which is 14-17 hours. Basically, here's what you do (I just did this last night/today while I was at work):
1) Install Raptr
2) Run Raptr
3) Launch and login RIFT on your trial account
4) Play however long you want
5) Leave the game open while you go to sleep/work
6) 14-ish hours later, you are eligible to get the game+xpac ($50 value) for free.
7) Un-install Raptr

I had an existing RIFT account from way back when and I'm not eligible for the 30-day free gametime that comes with it, but I got the $40 x-pac for free.



If you decide to play, then make a character on Shatterbone Defiance-side. Type in "/who anomaly" and ask for a guild invite. My character names are: Brontu and Brontoo.

I found the end game quite dull at launch tho the pvp was ok. I liked chlorokancer in pvp. The builds felt p limited at the time too. Id say terabytes has been my fav nonwow ammo.

I might do the Raptr thing for free... but I'm hesitant to think I'd stick to this game. I have a notoriously bad time with MMOs since I quit WoW 5 years ago. GW2 didn't stay with me for long, and I guess that was my last attempt.

Honestly, RIFT is a lot better than any of the "WoW killers"
It's spec system is the best I've ever seen. 8 trees and you choose 3 for your spec
Leveling has so many options: questing, PvP, rifts, Instant Adventures, Carnage quests, Onslaughts, LFG and some others added when you hit 50.
It doesn't have a weird feel to it like GW2, SWTOR, NW and Tera did. It's really smooth with amazing graphics (not cartoony)

Make a toon on Shatterbone and type "/who anomaly" no quotes. Anyone in guild can invite you. I'm Brontoo or Brontu

lvl 50 raids aren't too popular anymore BUT you can mentor (reduce your level) to 50 and go raid them if you wanted to make it more difficult.

there are a bunch of lvl 60 raids (3 i think)... 1 is 10 man ala karazhan and the other two are 20 man.

a little more about mentoring:
-its so you can de-level and get xp with your lower level friends
-for example, i mentored to level 14 yesterday (normally lvl 38) then did a Freemarch instant adventure. I got 2 levels within 45 minutes. If i were leveling in droughtlands, it'd take about double that time. mentoring is actually considered the best way to level pre-SL content.

Ive been playing since beta. I have 1 level 60 rogue (tank with maxed gear/rep) and 3 other chars level 50-59.

The thing that keeps me is the graphics honestly. I havent seen any MMO come close to it (play on Ultra settings). The UI and movement are smooth and solid. Theres so many builds/combo's you can try its insane. PvP is lacking though, mostly zerg fests with wins dependent on who has the most/best healer and/or premade. Raiding is fun, with only 1-3 trash pulls inbetween most bosses. The bosses themselves are challenging but not over/under tuned.

Patch 2.3 is going to be game changing, with F2P, Dendrome opening, cash store, etc etc. What I cant wait for is the 20 role slots (standard 6 now, which isnt enough).

Wolfsbane.

Anytime you see a Name@Server the @Server is what server/shard they are on.

For example:

Name@Threesprings
Name@Greybriar
Name@Seastone

etc.

Some good channels to join:
CrossEvents@Faeblight - World Event sever farming
CrossRaids@Faeblight - x server pug raids etc...

More details:

You can talk to anyone from any shard/faction.
Say you are on Greybriar shard and you want to chat with me. Just do a /w Nylas@Wolfsbane and it will send it to me. You can do the same with adding someone to friends. You cannot however send mail or trade with someone from other shards...yet.

yes, its just the channel that everyone uses. you can shard hop by joining a cross shard group, porting to whatever zone they are in currently (Ashora example) then right clicking on someones name and hit Join Instance. This basically zones you to their shard. You can type /shard to see which one you are on.

I started on Shatterbone last night, Defiant Warrior.

Warrior is probably the least desirable class unless you want to tank. Cleric is so fun as dps (my cleric is actually melee) and mage is highest dps, i think.

rerolled my cleric since he was too low to xfer. shaman was good times when i played him though i dont think i did it since i already had a melee. ill wait to play the ole warrior and mage until i figure this out.

ACTUALLY... Defiant and Guardian means nothing now. You can talk to them, invite them to party, be in the same guild, etc. The only thing different about them is starting area.

I bought the Brown Ursin. It's a very cheap mount and is so fast... 130% FTW. Really helpful for leveling.

I got kinda screwed lol... I was the only one in my guild that's been active in the last ... ~700 days, so i got promoted to guild leader. Unfortunately The guild had moved to a different server... so when i went to transfer my mage to get the guild, it booted me from the guild. GG.

oh well, supmate the dwarf mage will be making his triumphant return to the level 20 pvp bracket in 7 days.

I've never played mage but there's one spec that is similar to WoW's Warlock that is supposed to be amazing. Dot up lots of enemies then run. it lifesteals and kills fast. forgot the name tho.

Rogue tactician is so damn fun. You shoot enemies with a flamethrower and it does insane damage

i liked my mage in pvp back in the day. built all storm and just would sit on a cliff doing massive AE dmg. pretty lolsy, but super squish. i think you'll find more variety in the thief builds if that is what you are interested in though.

unfortunately now they reset all my skill trees when i came back so im trying to figure out wtf i had on my 35 mage (he was necro with dots from the warlock tree methinks).

they reset all of your trees if you havent played in a while which sux. some of those pre-defined templates seem like they would come close to what i wanted, but really didnt. had to remake all of my mage's from scratch.
