Going along with some other threads, but I didn't want to hijack them... Two questions:
1) I had a company "remove" trees from my backyard a month ago. Long story short, they left half of them on the ground in the backyard and I want them gone. Should I try to sell them to a "log guy" or just have someone come pick them up? I'd say 3 or 4 large trees are still sitting on the ground in my backyard. One of them is extremely large (at least 3 feet in diameter). They are all oaks. I've tried calling them for 2 weeks and they have not returned my call. Any recommendations?
2) Once #1 is done, I need to have a hard scrape done and retaining wall installed. My yard slopes downhill from the Cary Swim Club parking lot to my deck so I get a LOT of runoff water and the yard floods each time it rains. I'm looking to flatten the yard some and then throw up a wall with proper drainage behind/under it to attempt to grow grass and have a usable backyard. Again, any recommendations? 5/20/2013 4:47:32 PM |

That's a shame you'd knock down such an old tree, but I digress. Try placing an ad on craigslist for the downed trees, there are quite a few people with mobile saw mills that search for that kind of thing 5/20/2013 6:48:06 PM |

- budget is not really an issue. I don't want to spend more than I have to... I plan to shop around for #2
- I had to get rid of the largest two... They were hanging over the house and one was dead. There's a hole through the middle of the tree about 40 feet up.
- I've posted a craigslist ad for the branches. someone is coming Wednesday for a truckload but there's about 4 truckloads worth of branches... Already cut, FYI if anyone wants some. Not split, though. 5/20/2013 10:50:43 PM |

bobby, brandon here from bowen 401. No one is going the pay you for your logs, best best it to put at a craigslist ad for "free" firewood. It's too much work to haul that stuff off so you're not going to get cash offers... lord knows people are always calling me up wanting to sell me a big tree they have.
In regards to the wall throw up a photo on here and I'll have a look. Don't go cheap if you're dealing with a bunch of water there are too many jokers around that think they can build block style walls and then they fail. Just do a google search for paver wall fail. 5/21/2013 9:41:42 PM |

Hey brandon.. good to see ya again.
I actually posted to craigslist the other day and had a guy come out tonight and pay me money for the logs. I was surprised at how much I got out of it.
next step is stump removal. then flattening and wall installation. I'll take a pic this weekend. 5/22/2013 9:58:16 PM |

That large of an oak will yield a lot of quartersawn lumber. If he's able to cut it, he got the deal 5/23/2013 6:53:44 PM |
