Advance doesn't have one that reads engine data feeds for borrow, it's about $130 new. Would like to borrow one, but it needs "mode 6". Trying to find some details on misfiring on a 2004 Taurus, but the damn Fords sometimes take 60k misfires before they throw a code and the check engine light. Anyone have something I can borrow for a day or two?

If you can get me a code number I can help you out and steer you in the right direction.

There's not much that is easy about mode 6 if you're not used to it.

A lab scope is a mechanics best friend though

I've googled plenty of codes read by Autozone before, but there's no code if the vehicle doesn't throw one, and the scanner at autozone and the $20 ones only tell you those CEL (check engine light) codes. I'm sure it's not easy, but I'll have to figure out how to read the mode 6 data feed, if anyone has the device to read those. And those are not $20.

Lets me ask you this, is the trans slipping at all, is this at cruise speed?

No to the slipping, but it misfires at low rpms (idling at stop light) and under load like climbing a neighborhood hill at slow speeds. Got a "P0353 ignition coil c primary secondary circuit malfunctions" code today, I'm going to venture and guess the coil is bad?

Coil happens frequently on Fords. I've replaced quite a few of them. Many are pretty easy to check with a multimeter for correct resistances on primary and secondary. To confirm, I often swap coil positions if they're the individual coils to see if I get the code on the other cylinder. Of course you can't just do that with the brick, unfortunately.

One of the last coils I replaced was on the late great BigBlueRam's Excursion. I hate 10 cylinder Triton engines.
