They're hoping that if they can stall long enough the Jeeps will be junked soon. This is what $34 Billion of taxpayer money gets you.

I too, read yahoo on Monday
They will refuse to recall them. I don't blame them. It's not their fault that someone plowed into the back of you. Why on earth the government got rid of metal gas tanks is beyond me 6/5/2013 4:07:03 PM |

i wish they would recall my stupid door handle bezels. every single one of them is cracked and several other people have reported the same issue. Chrysler gave us a big FU.

Crown Vics had this same problem, Ford covered bolts and edges to make them less likely to puncture the tank. 6/5/2013 4:59:25 PM |

i rather liked the letter i got that was something akin to:
"sup, your airbag may randomly deploy while you are driving your grand cherokee. we don't have the parts to fix it though...we'll let you know what's up later." 6/5/2013 7:01:00 PM |

We apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail message.
I have researched your question and discovered that we do recommend GL-3, contrary to what is published in the owner's manual.
We have brought this to the attention of the service engineering group that publishes the owner's manuals and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

That typo has been bugging me since the 90's. I've ignored chrysler owner's manuals ever since.6/5/2013 7:49:49 PM |

Chrysler recalls half a million ADDITIONAL vehicles, but still refuses to recall 2.7 million.

The current CEO, Sergio Marchionne, came to prominence by telling the government of Italy where they could shove it and bribing enough local officials to come out on top. Doubt that strategy will work here though. He recently called the U.S. Government a shyster for asking Chrysler to repay their bailout.

i have only been on 1 grand cherokee involved in fire that wasn't plowed into from behind. fire started in the cargo area. cause of fire was power wire for amplifier that had a screw penetrating the sheathing. no fuse was used. tisk.

no explosion hazard with poly tanks. tank simply melts releasing the fuel which in turn the vapors burn off the leaking gas. granted the car will burn down unless someone is smart enough to use a dry chem. extinguisher or the f.d. applies a foam blanket but it's still better than exploding with occupants inside.6/6/2013 8:18:19 PM |

It's a business. They take a hit with the bad PR for refusing to do a recall when the data says this happened to 50 out of 2.7 million vehicles, all after vehicular accidents, not causing the accidents. Or they take a hit with bad PR and potentially going bankrupt for retrofitting 2.7 million cars, some of which are almost two decades old. While Im all for business ethnics thats a potentially massive money hemorrhage that would most likely tank them.
