Yeah, a hell of a lot. Starting with Metal Gear Solid 3, the series pulled focus away from Solid Snake to focus on his predecessor Naked Snake, whom he was cloned from (and who became Big Boss). It basically goes Metal Gear Solid 3 => Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker => Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes & Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. GZ and PP are supposed to show us the final arc of Naked Snake's transformation to Big Boss.

Yeah if you're gonna play it to catch up, might as well get Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection. For some reason it's like $80 on amazon right now (low stock I guess); usually it's 50 and the lowest I've seen it was a lightning deal around christmas for 25 fwiw.

I just figured it'd be a full game. Of course I'll still get it because Metal Gear Solid.

absolutely. you can make a case for 3 or 4 not only being the best in the series, but either could be the greatest game of all time. 2 is by far the worst.

The main story mission can be completed in two hours from what I've read, but there are numerous side missions and lots of replayability. Also, the price on the physical copy has been cut to $30, and the digital copy is $20.

how ironic is it that I'm a huge gamer and MGS fan boy and would definitely pick this game up at midnight, but I'm at GDC without access to my PS4 all week and thus can't play

I really want this to be good but it's hard not to be skeptical. I've already seen the game criticized at length for being short, and I'm really not down with no David Hayter.
