I'm testing some stuff to see if I can make my iphone think I'm in NYC... I installed a VPN app called Astrill.
But when I go to my Yelp app and look for places near me, it still shows local businesses in Charlotte.
I know this sounds like some shady thing, but I'm actually testing the check in feature for Yelp.
Any suggestions? 9/16/2013 12:03:32 PM |

The Yelp app is using your phone's GPS info and/or the cellular network location data to determine where you're at.
You can always just tell the app to search for a different location.

Thanks... I'm trying to do a check in.
Damn Yelp is horrible for small businesses. Client has all their good reviews filtered. I'm trying to test and see if checkins will actually help with reviews not getting filtered. 9/16/2013 12:23:10 PM |

I think the larger restaurants pay yelp to have their reviews at the top. 9/16/2013 2:02:18 PM |

It just depends on how much effort you want to put into this, if you're willing to jailbreak the phone there are apps in Cydia that can spoof your location to anywhere you want 9/16/2013 8:04:34 PM |
