Patrick Roy's first game as head coach went about as you might expect. They beat the piss out of Anaheim then Roy nearly beat the piss out of Bruce Boudreau.

And the Boudreau reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqyLksRX3u4

I hate that I have an 8am Calc 3 class and may likely miss a lot of west coast games this season. Good for Roy to set that kind of tone firing up the fans and team.

The Devils looked like a bunch of bumblewagons out there chasing the Penguins all night....

MAF looked good last night. Hope that keeps up. The Pens got up last night and went into a left wing lock, 1-3-1 type of deal. It's boring to watch, but it's nice to see some defensive responsibility for a change. It looks like Jacques Martin is already putting his mark on the team. I think he's going to prove to be a huge hire.

Fact. What's with owners throwing PL under the bus after they fire him? First Karmanos, then Snider.

Thomas Hertl has the biggest 19 year old balls ever. Hilarious that people are giving him shit about that goal.

Quote :
"Hearing a question to Marleau about Hertl and whether he was showboating, Thornton said: "Shut up, have you ever played the game?"

When the press turned his way, he then added: "I'd have my cock out if I scored four goals. I'd have my cock out, stroking it.""

In other news, it's three games later and Patrick Roy is still an undefeated NHL coach.

"The only way to score on Holtby is to break his face. Ray, get down there!"

Also, combination LOL/"genius!" move by Roy to start Varlamov tonight. Got the win, plus kept him away from media all day until he only had to answer game questions.

But...he's one of the "good guys"!

(that's made the layoffs 4 times in 15 seasons as a HC)

Kevin Westgarth lines up to take the opening faceoff for Calgary in Vancouver. Kevin Bieksa steps in opposite him. Line brawl off the opening faceoff. 10 players ejected 2 seconds into the game, including Kellan Lain playing in his first career NHL game. Now it's intermission and Tortorella was just trying to fight his way into the Calgary dressing room.

I don't understand the message Hartley was trying to send by starting his fourth line. Or, I guess I should say that I understand what message he was trying to send, but I just can't figure out why. And, why would he do it to Torts of all people? You have to know exactly how it's going to play out. Not that I don't enjoy a good line brawl, of course.

To Buffalo: Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, 2015 first-round pick, 2016 conditional third-round pick.

To St. Louis: Ryan Miller, Steve Ott.

Woowwww. St Louis for Callahan? Interesting trade.

I like the way this was structured... If tampa signs Callahan a pick goes back to new York. Its tough to call a loser in this one, but I think the deciding factor will be whether stamkos still gets fed the puck. Two totally different styles of players.

Future NYR lose. They have one of the worst prospect pools in the NHL and they're trading away picks in 2 of the highest rated drafts in recent years.

That's certainly possible. But they aren't afraid to acquire free agents. They've got that going for them I guess.

not from the NHL (it's KHL), but I don't think there's a generic hockey thread
